I was telling one of the cardinal fans at the stadium yesterday
the reason the rays are a very good team is because the play good baseball. they run, they play good defense, pitch well and play with great emotion to win. They dont just hit home runs to get back in the game, and they dont have super stars on their team. In a way they are the cardinals of the AL. The cardinals play very solid baseball. They pitch when they need to, and get hits when they need to and the Rays i feel are the same way in a sense.

My chief complaint was Edwin can’t succeed if he walks 4 per nine when the hits come falling. If he can keep dropping that number to the right side of 3.5, he’s probably a sub-4 ERA pitcher.

I know it wasn’t confidence per say, but he did get frustrated when things didn’t go his way and his mechanics fell apart when that happened. That’s a mental thing he’s seemed to gotten over, which has made him a solidly above average pitcher.

Great stuff
Has a mid-90’s fastball with a dirty change. Dominated with Team USA against very good competition. No breaking ball to speak of. Scouts warned against rushing him saying he needed time to develop his curve, the ODRO did not listen. He came up, sucked, they changed his mechanics and he lost his fastball. He went back to his old mechanics and his fastball didn’t come back.

All we really know is a predraft deal was worked out with Townsend for a significantly below slot deal. Despite the fact that his fastball was topping out in the mid-80’s and his disgusting spike curve wasn’t curving in pre-draft workouts.

He was part of the Rice Trio with Phil Humber and Jeff Niemann, all were legit Top-10 picks the year before. He had a fastball that was in the low-90’s touching mid-90’s. His spike curve was a put away pitch. He was well regarded for being ultra-competitive. Maximum effort pitcher, which lead some scouts to believe, as RJ said, that he was a future closer.

i honestly wouldnt trade jackson even though we have SP waiting
i think he really has the stuff for a good 3-5 starter. other than the last inning he was pitching with confidence and it looked like he has finally figured out that throwing 95 every pitch aint going to work, and a 89 mph with placement will do just fine with a good slider and changeup. I really like the guy and the pitching he has done this year makes me believe we should keep him
