Who are our All Stars?
OK, we've got the second best record in the AL and one of the top 5 records in the MLB. This would lead us to believe that we have more than the typical “obligatory” All Star candidate, but who should they be?
From a purely statistical standpoint, the only players we have in the top 5 of any statistical category are Pena with 9 HR, Sonnanstine with 6 wins and Crawford (3rd in runs, T-4th in hits, T-1st triples, T-5th SB).
Here’s the rub: Pena is hitting .215, Sonnanstine has an ERA north of 4.5 and with all those top 5 stats, CC is only hitting .282 with an OBP of .315. Is Navarro close enough in AB to be considered?
What do you think?

Navarro, Shields, Percival, Wheeler?

Percy
Personally, I agree with Navi and Shields 100%. I have a hard time seeing Percy make it with Mo, Papelbon, K-Rod (and maybe even Sherril from Baltimore) in the running. I do think Aki has a shot if he keeps playing like the last few weeks.

It should be Shields, Navi and maybe even Aki (anyone playing a better 2B in the AL right now?)
But it will be Shields and no one else. The Rays don’t have enough national respect yet to get more than that.

The All-Star
Although the stats of Pena, Crawford, and Sonanstine maybe low, that doesn’t matter. All-Star games typically are based on popularity. Besides half the shmucks who vote for the All-Star ballot (no one hear at D Rays Bay is like this) vote on name recognition or team recognition alone. Lol, reminds me of what I did to my friend the other day. We were at an Orioles game and I told him that in the write-in box he should put Don Mattingly. I told him Mattignly is htting great and that he’ll be a perennial All-Star. He did. And put the ballot in the All-Star box. I laughed for about the entire 5th inning.
Anyways don’t expect alot of Rays in the All-Star line-up. We’re not going to be overexposed like the Red Sox or the Yankees. Milwaukee had an awesome streak last year befroe the All-Star break and Prince Fielder to my recalling was the only All-Star from the Brewers in the Starting Line-Up. I expect Crawford and maybe Upton to come in the game, along with the obligatory Kazmir and maybe Percival. Whoever is on the All-Star team, it will be better than have lonely old Danys Baez (who isn’t even on the team anymore) that one year.

Just as I suspected...
We never had 2 play in the Game, but the year that Jose was mashin here (31 homers before the break) he made it. Then he didn’t play due to injury, and Roberto Hernandez got named as an alternate.
So, will this be the year to break the trend? I think no…
