Tim Beckham Put on Show for Rays

Per Stacy Long:

A quick review of what Beckham did -- a home run, a triple, two singles, a flyout, a walk and an oh-my-goodness baserunning mistake.

Read Long's post for extended details, but Beckham showcased himself very nicely for next week's draft and surely couldn't have hurt his stock. The question for the Rays becomes do they take the higher ceiling or the safe pick?

I agree

I’d rather have Pedro though, we need some more power in the system, and from what I heard, he has the athleticism to play in RF.

God guys, I wish Hamiliton didn’t become a pot-head, or Baldelli didn’t have that mitochondria problem, we’d have the best OF in the MLB.

I’ll take Alvarez, and enjoy watching him play everyday in 10’.

Base-running mistake?

Then hell, he’ll fit right in here!

Is Beckham considered a higher ceiling than Alvarez? Granted, he has the advantage of playing middle infield but is the consensus he should top out above Alvarez?

Longlorious.

From what I've read...

Alvarez will, without a doubt, have more power, but Beckham may end up being as good of a hitter. Becham would do so with plus defense at SS, though. Alvarez will either be an average to below average 3B or move to 1B or COF position.

Pedro in the SEC tourney...

Didn’t have a great one it looks like. Only 2/13 with a homer and a walk. Struck out at least 4 times.

SEC Tourney: 5-for-22, 2 HR, 2 BB, 5 K

1-for-4, BB
0-for-4, K
1-for-5, 3K, HR
0-for-4, BB, K
3-for-5, HR

Two things:

The Birmingham Barons home park (Hoover Met) is considered a pretty solid pitchers park; it is especially tough to hit the ball out of the stadium unless you pull it down the lines yet Alvarez did hit 2 HR.

His SEC regular season stats were right there with G. Beckham and Smoak despite the wrist injury.

Longlorious.
