Price is Greater then a Pedro
Tonight David Price, the Rays first round draft pick in 2007, out pitched the future hall of famer Pedro Martinez.
While pitching for the Rays' Single A advanced team, the Vero Beach Devil Rays, Price went 6 IP striking out 9 and not walking a batter while giving up two hits.
The Devil Rays won the game 2-0 giving Price his second win in as many starts.
In other news: The Durham Bulls won today 7-1 over the Norfolk Tides, while the Montgomery Biscuits lost 4-1 against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Here is tonight's boxscore from the game: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2008_05_28_vbdafa_sluafa_1&t=g_box&did=milb

WOW!
For both. How great of a story would it be if Townsend ended up conttributing as a releiver in the future…

I'm thinking...
David Price could be our big addition at the trade deadline. No need to be buyers when you’ve got something better in your back pocket.

We don't need another starter
Niemann/Sonny/Hammell/Howell can cover the #5 spot, another bat I think would be much more productive

Where would the bat go?

The only place we have room for a bat is RF
If you look at what is available out there there isn’t one guy that’s going to be available that I would be willing to give up one of our young pitchers for. Right now Price is better than Niemann/Sonny/Hammell/Howell/McGee/Davis. Jim Leyland has always said he’d take talent over experience any day and if we’re fighting to win the East or the Wild Card you have to take chances such as calling up Price.

Our most glaring need is RP
Are you really going to count on Reyes and Percival to remain healthy all year? Our bullpen is productive but it’s being held together with bandages. We need another Reliever much more than another bat.

Price up, Sonny to pen
Sonny reminds me a lot of JP in the rotation. Perhaps he could be the RH version that can go 3+ innings when needed. Easily makes it so we could go 7 man bully with:
JP
Sonny
Wheeler
Reyes
Percy
Miller
Hammell
Not too shabby!
Leaves Starters of: Kaz, Shieldsy, G-Unit, Price, and E-Jax

Id do Gomes and Mason for Milton Bradley

So you're anti-Bonds...
but pro-Bradley. Interesting.
I would do that to, I think. He has been bitten by the injury bug in the past though….

Milton Bradley is 15 years younger than Bonds
And wasn’t in the Mitchell Report.
Plus he was one of the peacemakers in the big Richie Sexson brouhaha earlier this year.

Seriously?
Bradley’s CAREER BEST: .306 .402 .545
Bonds 07: 276 .480 .565
Yeah, no contest.

I said nothing about his being numerically comparable to Bonds
But at least Bradley doesn’t have nearly as much baggage as Bonds.
And Bradley’s numbers this year to date: .327 .435 .561

Mentally he’s got more baggage, but media wise no.

Just a thought
This might not be a better option than Haynes was but what about trying to get Joey Gathright back. It wouldn’t take much and he is a decent option at lead-off. .269/.310 14/16 SB. He has no power what so ever and this would require Upton to move to RF because JG doesn’t have the arm to play there.

OK, So it's not the best option.....
Or even the next best option, but did anyone read that article in the St Petersburg Times talking about Rocco Baldelli coming back possibly this year? Maybe it’s a little loyalty to the guy, but that would definitely a great story if Rocco were to come back in any capacity.

That would be great...
hell if Hammy can vie for the triple crown why can’t Rocco come back and help the team?

Unfortunately for him, the Rays were the only ones asking.

"so you're anti bonds but pro bradley"
last I checked Milton Bradley isnt 44 years old, unable to play the field, and he never took steroids.

Bradley’s CAREER BEST: .306 .402 .545
RJ- please answer these things for me. I have brought them up numerous times but you seem to ignore them
Bonds cant play the field, and cant run the bases, and cant play everyday. He couldnt play everyday last year, I couldnt imagine what kind of shape he is in and how many games per week he could play in this year. 2-3 maybe? ANd then what do you do with Cliff Floyd. Tell me rj. When we sign Bonds, what type of shape are you expecting him to be in? Have you even seen him since last season? Has anybody seen him? How do you know he is even still training? And you want to get rid of Big Daddy Floyd (who has been here everyday with the team since February) for this guy? That is at best a lateral move and at worst a flat out terrible move for many reasons
Bradley never took steroids, can still run the bases, can still play the field, we know what type of chape he is in as opposed to Bonds who nobody has seen in months. Bradley isnt 44 years old, and we have a much better idea of what Bradley can give us than Bonds consideirng Bonds hasnt swung the bat this year
Bradley has a .435 OBP, .561 slugging, he is a switch hitter and he can play the field (and bette rthan anyone else we have in RF)
All you can do for your Bonds argument is tell us what his OBP was last year in the NL. Yet you never address his age, his lack of speed once he gets on base, his steroid issues, his clubhouse issues, or his media issues.

Bradley being able to play everyday?
He’s played in more than 101 games once in his career (4 years ago), and Bonds has played in more games every year but 1. Bonds is a way better hitter than Bradley. Bradley is a better fielder, though. Neither light up the bases so that is basically a moot point. I think the big issue is that Bonds is WAAAAY cheaper than Bradley at this point. Bonds may bring the media circus, but I am unsure what kind of effect that actually would have. He’d defs put butts in the seats. I wouldn’t mind going after Bradley, but I am not willing to trade prospects. This team is good this year, but it is not 1 piece away from winning a championship. I’d rather hold onto all of our assets, win 86 games, and be able to have a sustained run of success over the long haul. IMO, I’d rather be the 90’s braves than the Marlins team that won 2 WS. Sustaining success, to me, is the ultimate goal, and trading away blue-chippers for decent players isn’t the way to do that. That’s what Brian Sabean would do, and he’s the reason Bonds never won a ring.

Bradley never took steroids
You have no idea if that’s true and you’re speaking out of your ass about clubhouse issues. How many times have you been in the clubhouse with either? When was the last time Bonds threw stuff in his GMs office like Bradley did with Beane?
