Ben Zobrist opted to AAA Durham as the Rays call up relief pitcher Grant Balfour. Hat tip to the always great Todd Kalas. Grant has a 0.38 ERA through 23.2 IP, while a K/BB ratio of 39/10.

I hope he is just as successful up here!!
Or at least successful enough so that I never have to cuss at my TV again due to the sight of Gary Glover warming up.
Rest for Bartlett
I am glad that Balfour got the call, he is deserving. I am concerned, however going to battle without a backup shortstop. It is a mistake to ask Longoria to spell Bartlett as he has enough on his plate as a rookie to be asked to learn a new position on the fly. Lastly, Zobrist’s name has been tossed around over the last few days with the pending return of Aybar (even before the injury to Percival). With Zobrist possibly being demoted, why didn’t Joe give Bartlett a day off and use Zobrist at shorstop?
Hopefully
Balfour is used more than Glover. Glover makes me sick.
