A Few Quick Notes
Both courtesy of Marc Lancaster
- B.J. Upton is expected to return tomorrow after sitting out the previous two games with a shoulder ailment. The last time Upton tweaked his shoulder swinging Upton missed three games.
- Al Reyes will miss an additional few weeks thanks to a some shoulder soreness after a rehab appearance. I'm not going to say he's done, but this news isn't encouraging for the 37 year old's future prospects. Of course, that's not to say he has too much in terms of a playing future anyways at age 37.
Also a site note; game threads will be posted (on regular nights) at 5:30, essentially a compromise between the 5/6 start times we've went with.

How is ‘swinging and missing’ worse for Beej’s shoulder than swinging and making contact?

Because of the ridiculous batspeed that he generates
Assuming BJ has world-class bat speed, which I’m sure he does, he would still likely easily lose up to 20mph of bat speed after contact. It is a lot easier to stop a 70 mph bat from flying out of your hands than one going 90 mph plus. Slower bat to stop = less strain on front shoulder.

oh wow, i didn’t realize you lose so much speed with contact, but it makes sense.

Al Reyes
Al was great for us last year. If we have room for him he will be a help for us now but we sould not loose anyone off the roster to keep a pitcher in his last year.
