Desmond Jennings due back as soon as this weekend
Center fielder Desmond Jennings, a top Rays prospect who hasn't played this year because of injuries, could be close to shipping out of extended spring and joining Vero Beach.
Jennings has been playing in extended spring games, is up to playing at full speed and could be activated as soon as this weekend, field coordinator Jim Hoff said.
Excellent news indeed, should provide a much-needed boost to Vero Beach's offense.

Why didn't I know he was in extended spring?
I would have loved to see him. Oh well, will get to Vero Beach games in this area.

That can't be right.

It appears as though that is the case.
From the Play by Play:
Chuck Caufield grounds out, third baseman Desmond Jennings to first baseman Matthew Fields. Taylor Green scores.

He didn't play 3rd
that’s absurd. Milb has been screwing this up all season. They said Chase Fontaine was a catcher. Never happened.

Um,
Making a mistake in the box score is one thing. Transcribing the PBP multiple times to reflect that Jennings is starting at third base is another. I count at least three references to Jennings as the starting third baseman in the PBP. This is one hell of a mistake, compounded many times over, if in fact it turns out wrong.

But why would a CF
play 3B? That doesn’t make any sense. Especially since we haven’t heard anything about him moving to the IF, something that almost never happens.

I don't know
I have no answer for you there. Maybe a pregame injury occurred to someone that necessitated Jennings stepping in at the last minute. I obviously have no clue, but that it was referred to so many times makes me think that it wasn’t just an error.

Also noticed that the listed CF was Neil Walton
Walton has only played in the OF twice all season.
