Did R.J. Harrison Tip the Rays Hand?
Last night during the broadcast Todd Kalas interviewed the point man for the Rays draft; director of scouting R.J. Harrison. Todd asked a question about how the current team would affect the draft and Harrison replied with something like "If we have an amateur third baseman who we project as a middle of the order bat we'll take him and find a spot for him to play later."
I know there's the money and Boras issues, but man, I'm not ruling out Pedro Alvarez as the Rays' pick quite yet.

I will likely be happy with whoever they choose to take in the draft...
The new front office hasn’t exactly made a bad call the last couple of drafts. I think having Alvarez would not be a bad thing for a first basemen of the future, however, the Boras thing does bother me. I got just as apprehensive as everyone else when Boras was seen talking to Crawford at the All-Star game last year.

Maybe it is!?!
Has anyone ever seen Harrison and Anderson in the same place at the same time?

Make me wonder if Upton would still be at Durham trying to learn an infield position under the old ownership group.

I know, and their draft style has boded well
I remember in 06 when they drafted Longoria. They thought they he was going to be gone, so they had Linceum ready to pick.
And both of those guys turned out to be solid stars so far.

Beckham or Alvarez would be my choices. I like Posey a lot, but his upside doesn’t warrant a #1 pick.

i’m rooting for posey cause i think he’ll have the quickest impact.

Alvarez
He is the smartest pick in the draft and he can play a corner OF or any corner IF position. I understand the organizational need for catching, but Alvarez by all accounts is prodigious and is the best player. When picking overall #1, it shouldn’t matter about organizational need but by the best player, and Alvarez fits that bill.

Apparently he's not going to be the pick after all.
