A Wise Man once said...

"A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results."- Wade Boggs

They should have that hanging somewhere in Tropicana Field.  I know the Yankees got something like that in their stadium, and I believe Boston has something about "Boston Never Forgets" or some lame New England thingy.  Anways best quote ever, by possibly one of the best Rays and baseball players ever.  Long live number 12.  WE LOVE BOGGS!

I don’t consider Boggs a Ray and the fact that his number is retired and not McGriff’s is an utter and complete joke that sickens me.

Quite frankly

I don’t think that Boggs’ number nor McGriff’s should be retired. You can make an argument for McGriff being a Ray, but Boggs was here for just two years in an otherwise long career. But really, McGriff only spent about four full seasons here, if that. That isn’t enough to retire a number, no matter how much I like him or how good of a baseball player he was. IMO, the team should wait and retire the numbers of RAYS players deserving of the honor. It shouldn’t be forced.

I'd take just unretiring 12 then.

I agree

I wish they would not have retired it. I would want the first one to be someone who is the “franchise” guy. The guy when you think of the Rays you think of that player and also hopefully a guy that will do something amazing in October. A guy for me to think “He was a Ray”. but that is just me.

I sort of agree...

Honoring players shouldn’t be forced, but the Rockies & the Marlins have been around for over 15 years and the Marlins have won two world series and they haven’t retired any players… Jeff Conine anyone? At least the Rays respect players that decide to end their long careers with them.

Who Knows

Who knows McGriff works with the Rays in spring training and is close to the organization still, Sternberg sounds like a smart guy, who knows McGriff’s number could be retired.

Bogg’s number shouldnt be retired, but neither should McGriff’s. I would retire Aubrey HUff’s number before I retired McGriffs and McGriff athlete that ever lived on top of being the greatest 1B to ever lace up a pair of cleats

It's time to take it back!

I would absolutely support a movement to unretire Boggs’ jersey. I’ve got nothing against the man, but it was absolutely uncalled for. You can’t create history, you have to be patient and let it develop over time. Just another stupid Vince Naimoli move

Not sure about that last bit

but if you’re suggesting McGriff as the greatest 1B ever, well… ever heard of a guy named Gehrig. And there’s a few others.

Not slamming Freddy – I agree he was great – very underrated. Sad he couldn’t get a shot at 500 HR’s.

That’s why we retired his number…
