Colter Bean Signed as Ryu Hits the DL

Marc Lancaster of the Tribune reports that Bulls RHP Jae Kuk Ryu has been placed on the 7 Day DL due to elbow soreness. To replace Ryu in the interim, the Rays have signed former Yankees farmhand Colter Bean.

Also, RHP Evan Meek has cleared waivers and will be offered back to the Rays for $25,000 unless the Pittsburgh works out a deal in a 72 hour window to acquire his rights.

Colter Bean, coming to a Starbucks near you. I’ll take mine venti, with cream no sugar thank you.

I remember when this guy pitched at Tampa about six or seven years ago. He was sensational.

As for McClouth, STPie: It is written that the Meek shall inherit the earth, but It will take a hell of alot more than the Meek, a ??? and $$$ to inherhit the McClouth that roars.

Hellickson

Just back from Lakeland where we saw Hellickson pitch. He did not dominate; in fact, he struggled a bit with his control early, struck out just 3 in his 5.2 IP and gave up a lot of hard hit balls. Still, he showed a variety of off-speed pitches which he gained command of as the game progressed and was not afraid to mix up his pitches.

The gun at the park clocked his fastball at 94-95 early in the game, but I checked with a man who had his own gun, and he said he was sitting between 91-93, that the field gun has been fast for a few years. His off-speed stuff was clocked between 75-78, occasionally at 80-83, so there seems to be good separation, and most of the hard hit balls were off fast balls.

Zobrist, by the way, hit one ball to deep right center for an out, then doubled hard over first base before striking out. He botched an easy double play grounder at third and came out after the 6th inning.

It is a beautiful stadium with deep dimensions. Lots of hard hit balls were caught well over 350 feet away at the walls. J.T. Hall, who came in for Royster (I assume Royster was hurt. They did not explain) did hit an opposite field homer-and later a huge double in the left-center gap.

Not sure if you saw them, but Friedman/Hunsicker were both at Vero's game to scout Hellboy.
