Dear Sonnanstine,

Please pitch smarter today.

Meh, pitcher/batter matchups aren't trustworthy.

Going to the Biscuits game today.

Does anyone have any questions for me or anything to look for?

It’s McGee v. Ryan Tucker. (Marlins)

If McGee uses something outside of his fastball.

Report...

McGee was up in the zone quite a bit. In the first inning he surrendered a homer and a double. His curve ball has very little break and is more effective because of the speed (low 70’s) than the motion. He also leaves that pitch up. The highest he hit all day was 94. For the Fish, Maybin showed his athletic ability legging out an infield single then drawing a wild pickoff throw. He also took a McGee offering completely out of the park. Decent game overall.

Jay Bruce another homer...

Think Dusty likes this? He might not be able to run the team as a final home for sons of former players who are black.

On the other hand, he enjoys undeserved praise being reaped on him for having a supremely talented left handed bat.

Just made the Rays second round pick in that mock draft

Brad Holt, RHP, UNC-Wilmington

Keith Law took Posey in the first, so Posey/Holt so far. That’s a pretty nice draft.

Sonny doesn't belong in starting rotation

He doesn’t have the stuff to make up for his lousy pitch placement. So what if he throws strikes. He might as well put them on a tee.

by RayFanNY on Jun 1, 2008 2:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The problem is

We don’t have a lot of major-league ready options

by JMB on Jun 1, 2008 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

And I doubt Howell will be better as a starter than he is as a reliever. It might be worth checking out though…

by RayFanNY on Jun 1, 2008 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's having success because of the pen velocity inflation.

Why move him to the rotation where he’ll be overexposed?

This is like Major League

Maddon is trying to throw the game. We need to win in the bottom of the 10th before he brings in Glover.

I told myself just before the homer

If Gross hits a walk-off I am officially a believer in angels in the Outfield and them being on our side, folks this just might be a special season.
