Longoria Elected as Rays Player Representative
3B Evan Longoria was elected as the Rays' Player Representative to the MLB Players Association on Friday, with RHP Jamie Shields selected as the alternate. Never had either of those guys pegged as people to get involved in union politics; let's hope you won't be hearing too much out of them in these roles.

I love that the two guys that are the ones to speak for our team with the union are team-first guys. Both were recently locked up long-term to team friendly deals, I’m sure the other union reps will love them.

Good point
Longoria and Shields represent the different way of doing business that this organization has shown over the last two years, and their way of doing business isn’t advantageous financially for the rest of the MLBPA, so these were two interesting choices. Maybe they’ll end up being voices of moderation in the union.
