6/15: Minor League Minute

AA Montgomery Biscuits (34-35)
BISCUITS 9, Mobile 7-Montgomery jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, and extended that lead to 7-0 later on en route to a 9-7 win over the Mobile BayBears. Mobile did briefly claw back in the game, scoring five runs in the sixth to chase LHP James Houser from the ballgame. All but one of those runs were unearned, however, as Houser saw his ERA drop to 2.08. The Biscuits and BayBears each made three errors in a sloppy ballgame, though four Biscuit players had multiple hits and the team had 12 total. RHP Ryan Reid closed out the ballgame for Montgomery, earning his second save of the year and possibly signaling a setup role for RHP Eduardo Morlan when he starts pitching regularly. The first half of Montgomery's season concludes today with a game in Mobile. By winning, the Biscuits can finish with a .500 record.

A+ Vero Beach Devil Rays (32-34)
FSL West 9, FSL East 3-Several Vero Beach players participated in the latest installment of the Florida State League's annual All-Star Game in Viera, which ended poorly for the Eastern division team they represented. LH Ryan Morse started the game for the Eastern squad and pitched one inning. He was followed later on by RH Heath Rollins, who pitched the fifth inning. Both pitchers gave up an earned run in their stints, while Morse gave up another, unearned run. Cesar Suarez started at shortstop for the East, going hitless in two at bats but driving in a run with a ground out in the fourth. J.T. Hall and Garrett Groce each played the whole game and went hitless in four at bats. Hall was the Designated Hitter, while Groce started in right field and later moved to center. Hall also participated in the Home Run Derby prior to the game and won, besting Brevard County's Taylor Green in the final round.

Let me pose a question:
Is this piece useful to all of you? I know some of you mentioned yesterday that you had First Inning pages with full box scores and all, so in light of that, is this piece still useful? Does it provide any independent information that makes it worth doing?

I read both because First Inning has the full box and you add commentary that I don’t necessarily know from the box alone. I like it Patrick!
