Could this deal really go down?
When I think about adding Jr. to this team this year it reminds me a little bit about guys like Boggs, Mcgriff, and others back in the day but I think it is a little bit different. I think that even though he isn't going to be the guy that hit 40 homers and drove in 100 RBI he could be a great presence on the team and in the line-up still. He won't be any worse than Floyd or Hinske and will be a great draw for the stadium. I also think that adding a guy like Griffey could go a long way in getting the new stadium. If people see that the Rays are willing to open up the wallets to try to win they will be more inclined to want the stadium.
That brings up the question of who goes if we get Griffey. My guess would be Hinske, I like Gross as a defensive replacement late in games and I don't see a need for Griffey, Hinske, and Floyd. I also like Floyd's leadership so I'd rather not see him gone. I don't see us giving up a Major leaguer except maybe Hammel. I think the deal would involve maybe a guy like Niemann or Talbot and Ruggiano
