Beckham Could Sign Soon
Marc Lancaster indicates that on an upcoming trip the Tropicana Field Tim Beckham could officially join the organization and sign a contract with the team. This is suggested, if nothing else, by Beckham's father.
In other minor league news:
Princeton's starter Matt Moore went 3.1 innings, struck out 9, allowed five hits, and three earned runs while walking two. Angel Papas and James Bagley also worked three in the extra innings loss despite three walks by Mayobanex Acosta and a two double night for D.J. Jones.
Tyree Hayes continues to disappoint, lasting all of two outs last night for Hudson Valley before being lifted. Four hits, nine runs (three earned), four walks, and no strikeouts complete the line for Hayes. The knuckleballing Diego Echeverria came in for a few innings of relief, walking three, striking two out, and allowing six hits and four runs. Robert Della Grotta and Travis Risser combined for a perfect four innings to finish the game and recent draftee Jason Tweedy committed two errors in the first.
A suspended game in Vero left Jeremy Hellickson on the line after two innings of one hit, three strikeout ball. Vero leads 3-0 thanks to a Matthew Fields homerun and play will resume today at noon.
Jake McGee had a solid outing for Montgomery, working 5.2 innings and only allowing two earned runs on six hits. Eduardo Morlan walked one in two-thirds of an inning, but Ryan Reid blew the game with five runs allowed, although to be fair only one was earned.
And finally in Durham, nothing went right for Mitch Talbot. 4.2 innings, a walk, six hits, two wild pitches, five strikeouts, and seven earned runs all but buried the Bulls on their way to an 8-1 defeat.

I think everyone wishes they could plateau like Melvin Emanual "Bossman Junior Skoal King" Upton

Like his 3rd year there
after he had destroyed it at 20 and 21

BJ struggled in AAA with the bat for 1 and 1/2 years
along with a 1/2 year of pathetic play in the majors. Wasn’t his real minor league success in AA? I could be wrong there
After his brief callup to TB in 2004,
Upton was returned to AAA for 2005 when he was 20. His line that year was .303/.392/.490 with 18 home runs, 78 BBs and 129 Ks in 545 ABs. He was also 44 for 57 in SBs. It was 2006 only in which he struggled at AAA, although even then he had a .374 OBP on top of his .269 BA. He did not, however, hit for much power and looked very bad when promoted to TB later in the year.

So fucking awesome
He hardly missed anytime. Now what are our chances of stopping Lobstein from going to college?
I would say pretty good
If only because he was a second round pick. Granted, we had the Morris situation three years ago, but usually teams don’t use their second ronud selections on players they believe will be a tough sign. Second rounders are in such high stature that wasting them could have a significant impact on player development. For that reason, I believe that the two sides will come to terms. I don’t think the front office would draft Lobstein without a good chance of them being able to sign him.

For the record
Bryan Morris was a 3rd round pick. RJ Harrison has already praised Lobstein publicly. I’d say the chances he doesn’t sign are very small.

Ah yes
Thanks for correcting my Tyler, Mason was the second rounder in ‘05 if I remember right. IIRC, Andrew Miller was our No. 2 selection in 2003, so I guess it’s the third round that has proven difficult.
