Kudos from a Cubbie
I mentioned in the Rays-Cubs thread a couple days ago that I thought the Cubs would take 2 of 3, simply because we have been winning games lately we normally would lose. No excuses from me, we got flat outplayed in this series. We had mental breakdowns, our normally steady bullpen got hammered, and the young talent of the Rays brought it all series. My hat is off to the Rays, who are (and have been for years) my favorite AL team. The Rays kicked ass, and the Cubs looked like little-leaguers.
What a talented team you guys have in Tampa, and you should be very proud. As most road games I attend for the Cubs, we seemed to pack the stadium, but I earnestly hope the folks in the Tampa Bay region realize what a gem of a team is playing right there in the Bayand get behind that team to keep growing it and become a powerhouse. God, please beat the brakes off the Yanks and Red Sox, and maybe ESPN will get off their jocks.
As always, I have had a wonderful time here, and the Rays fans have been a lot of fun and incredibly hospitable. Thanks to Jared, Eddie, Ashley, and the other chick (sorry I can't remember the name) for buying me drinks to drown my sorrows after the game at the bar. You guys were great fun and I hope you remembered the name of this site and joined up to read. Thanks for those Jagerbombs, though I think my liver is crying right now.
Best of luck to the Rays, I would love to see you guys again in October and maybe y'all can leave some of the talent at home. :)

Step 1: Admitting You Have a Problem

Thanks
You’ve been quite the classy ambassador, and if nothing else this is probably the most exciting series of the season.
Hopefully a few of the BCB posters come to realize this instead of saying we’re just going to be ordinary. I guess defensive efficiency means nothing to them.
So while I’m sure you guys will be in the playoffs, we’ll see if we can’t join you.

Personally,
I would love to see the Rays make the playoffs, if for no other reason, it means that the Yankees didn’t make it.
You all have a good young team and should be competitive for a while now and hopefully that new stadium works out.

Down here that is pronounced y'all

No doubt!
Being a Florida Cracker, I think my first word was “y’all”. When I go to Chicago for games, people stop me in the bars in Wrigleyville and say things like, “I like the way you talk!” or “Do you people read down there?”
I tell them I read the obituaries page of the New York Times every day, of course we read!
Haha….gotta love our northern friends.

You are most certainly a classy ambassador for Cubs fans, and although it was annoying to be completed dominated at Wednesday night’s game, I will give Cub fans credit for being true baseball fans, rather than bandwagoners. Seriously though, best of luck to you and your team from here on out.

Having interacted with them for 3 games straight.
I must admit that Cubs fans are in a class by themselves when it comes to rooting for their team loudly without being jerks about it.

The difference between Cubs fans and Yanks/Sawx fans..
...is that there is no Cubs bandwagon. They have a knowledgeable fanbase. Like pre-Pacbell Giants fans.
I take that back, there were some definite fans who jumped on the Cubs bandwagon after the release of “Rookie of the Year”

Go suck on a polish sausage
Cubs suck, I would say “see you in the world series”, but let’s face it. The chances of the cubs winning a playoff series is slim to none.

Uncalled for
Guess there are worse things that could have happened than me ending up with an extra ticket unused.

I didn't see that until it was too late...
I was looking for a reason to go since I gave my tix to my brother-in-law. Maybe next time.

My dilema
As a season ticket holder, I can exchange my unused ticket for a ticket to future Rays game. Or for a free Papa Johns Pizza. Choices, choices!!

I'd have season tickets
If I lived in St Pete. Lakeland is too far away for me to commit.

Dude
No question. Another ticket. A free small pizza isn’t worth as much, especially when you have to go hoop-jumping through Kane’s to get it.

Nice
I expected this from you, Dukes.
I’ll take the high road. A word of advice: act like you’ve been there before.
To everyone else, thanks for having us. I’ll keep checking in on you guys. Thanks for the kind words, true Cubs fans are indeed one of a kind and love baseball. I can see the Rays building a similar tradition.
Cheers!

it is nice that some recognize true Cubs fans. We love the game and we will love our team for ever.

I appreciate your class Cribbs, but
Please don’t wish a Cubs-like tradition on the Rays. If our fans can reach a similar level of Cubbie-devotion that is another story as you guys are great. I’ve always wondered if anyone in Chicago works since you flip on a day-game and the place is swaying with drunkards. Makes me want to visit sometime.

Yep
I should have clarified. We aren’t exactly frolicing in winning traditions, but we have a rich and stories history, and Cubs fans are some of the most loyal and passionate fans I have known. I sense the Rays growing into that same place, and at the rate you guys are grooming young talent, I can see winning being a big part of that.
You are welcome at Wrigley anytime, man. First round of Old Style is on me. :)
I may have been one of the swaying drunks you have seen. Since I live in Florida, I only get to make a couple trips to Chicago each summer for series at Wrigley, but the day game experience is awesome, if for no other reason than the fact that you are watching baseball and drinking suds while most everyone else is stuck at work.

I usually watch games at this Cubs bar and saw a sign for Old Style
We were talking about how it’s been around forever and wondered if it was originally called “Style” or “New Style”. Any insight on that?

Well
It’s always been called Old Style, since 1902 when it was Old Style Lager. The first one tastes like beaver piss, but they get better after that.
I think at some point in it’s past, it was rumored (or may have actually been) owned by mobsters, possibly as a front for mob activity. Or, perhaps mobsters had an insatiable addiction to pounding headaches and sleeping with ugly women. Someone with more knowledge about breweriana could possibly shed more light than me. I am merely an expert on the current crop of domestic hangover inducement.
I can’t vouch for that part, but it is as much a part of Cubdom as the lovable loser tag. Try it if you get a chance.

Hey, thank you.
Class act, as most Cubs fans have been. It’ s rather awkward trying to enjoy a victory when most Cubs fans this dearies have been so damn humble. This is coming from a guy who regularly deals with Red Sux and Stanks fans.
Would I love a Cubs- Rays World Series. Hell I would take any World Series where the Rays appear.
Simply said: the Rays won by string at bats together and continuing to add on runs and relying on sharp bullpen arms.
I was very impressed with Derrick Lee, Fukudome, and Theriot. I was surprised with he errors mad by your club though. If you had to put a finger on the one thing that cost you games, it would be the errors. With the errors made on the field, that cost your pitcher valuable pitches and added runners on base.
Take care of yourself and be safe.

I was at the game last night
and most Cubs fans were very nice, even when they took the 3-0 lead. However I was in the upper deck and one drunkin Cubs fan started a fist fight with some Ray fan…uncalled for. What made it worse was when the Cubs fan was kicked out a few other Cubs fans threw their beers on that Rays fan.
Call me crazy but those Cubs fans are not the norm…in fact, I’d say they were acting more like White Sox fans-probably South Siders…
Overall, good series.
Note to Cubs fans: Your boys are welcome here anytime!

That is pretty sad
although I was at the first two games of the series and saw my share of drunken, belligerent idiots wearing both teams’ gear. Every family has its black sheep.

Thanks!
Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every tree. I swear, if I weren’t so foggy headed and thinking of fishing this afternoon, I could come up with a better cliche.
DancingRays, you are right. Errors have killed us this year. Theriot has had a surprisingly good season at the dish. Lots of us had our doubts - and still do to a degree - on whether he could maintain his average and OPS throughout a full season, but he has really stepped up and handled it well. His defense is a little suspect at times, and he makes baserunning errors, but we knew what we were getting with him. We have Cedeno as a backup, and he has been hitting major league pitching a lot better, and is very slick with the glove. I suspect he will become trade bait come deadline time this year. Derrek Lee is steady, although his strikeouts have been high lately. He is consistent and usually works in streaks. Fukudome has been a pleasant find, and exactly what we were looking for. He works the count as good or better than anyone in the bigs. His power numbers are down since coming over from Japan, but he is far and above what we have had in the past roaming right field.
I apologize for the raucous Cubs fans at the Trop that sully our good name. If it’s any consolation, we throw them out at Wrigley too. :)

another fan from Chicago
I hadn’t really seen the Rays play much this year. I was somewhat familiar with the team and I knew you had a lot of young talent but I didn’t expect anything like what I saw the last 3 days. I’m certainly glad that the Cubs don’t have to play down there on a regular basis. After watching you guys the past few days I have no doubt that you will be in there in the end.
Good luck to you guys the rest of the way. It’d be nice to see someone besides the Yanks or the Red Sox make it to the playoffs from the AL East.

Sorry if I want some bandwagon ‘fan’ to not feel welcomed on these forums, or at the trop. I have no sympathy for people living in florida cheering for teams outside the state.

I heard you the first time. You’ve made your point, I just don’t care. You see things one way, and I see it another. BFD.

Well done...
I’m a Cubs fan too but my sister and mother have both relocated to the Bay area so I’ve caught the occasional Rays game on my visits since ‘98. I will always be a Cubs fan but I’ve slowly developed a soft spot for the Rays and I was thrilled, not just to them playing so well, but see such a good atmosphere in the Trop. Sure, there were lots of Cub fans at each game, but the Rays fans made a lot of noise throughout of the series. From the TV at least, it sounded very loud inside the dome, a welcome change from many of the games that I’ve attended. If they can stay in the race into September and October, that much-maligned dome will be a real home field advantage…
So well done, I was glad to see that such a talented, exciting team is getting the support that it deserves.
Out of curiousity, because I haven’t followed any developments, what is the status of the team’s attempt to build a new park on the Al Lang Field site? If that proposal is still on the table, is the Rays’ emergence as a contender helping to move it forward?
We sell spatulas...and that's all.

Cubs
The cubs fans are the best in baseball. The main reason being, they have put up with sucking for 100 years. I am a rays ran, but I wish the rays fans would come and visit Tropicana. Congrants to you few fans who enjoy season tickets and support the rays.
