Who's Jonny She Said
As much as I hate to say this, and as big a fan as I am, it's time for Jonny Gomes to go. We only have him around to hit lefties which he has failed to do by barely hitting over .200 against them. He is a liability in the field and has not played a full game in the outfield in quite a long time. His biggest hits this season have been off of two guys that don't even pitch: Shelley Duncan and Coco Crisp.
With Pena coming back tomorrow and Aki set to serve what will probably be a two game suspension over the weekend keeping Zobrist on board wouldn't be a bad idea. He can play seven positions adequately to help rest our guys and can't possibly do any worse than Gomes has done at the plate. Aybar can take over the DH duties (who else jumped out of thier chair and thought he had a GrandSlam today?) against lefties from here on out.
I'm sure there is a team that will give Jonny a spot (KC, SF?) on their roster and we can look for a low level bat in return. Justin Ruggiano is now a better option for the Rays long term so an immediate benefit from the trade would not be necessary.

It seems like they want to keep him in the clubhouse
but Ruggiano is such a better fit.

Jonny's a great guy..
And the definition of a teammate, but reaching the playoffs are priority #1. We’re at the point where the other contenders are going to look to get even better and we have to do everything within reason to do the same.

maybe we can package a pitching prospect with him for a decent RF'er

Favorite Player
Gomes was my favorite player and I hate to see him go but you’re right, he has no use to the team right now. He’s only there to be an enforcer. Keep him until next week after we play the Red soxs and then trade him.

Team won't be the same without him, but it's just about DFA time...
Joe Maddon’s probable zen-ish quote when Gomes gets waived, “If you love somebody, set them free.”

A platoon of Ruggs and Gross and Hinske would be more than adequate
no need to trade for a RF… for the 1000 time…
Why give something away if we don’t have to… I think if we DFA’d Jonny@this point he might even clear waivers. Even if he did not it would be sweet to see him latch on somewhere and contribute…

How many Devil Rays would that leave?
Just CC? If Gomes goes that is.

I say play him full time for 2 weeks
This guy can mash I was at the Kazmir Record strikeout game and he should of had 2 homers that night. He was a monster and bashed everything in sight. This guy can really hit and he needs consistent playing time to realize his full potential. This guy is as good a right handed hitter out there. The fact he does not play more is what is really hurting him. He is a 40hr plus guy if he plays 150 games.
