6/28: RAYS (48-31) at PIT (37-42)

Tampa Bay Rays at Pittsburgh Pirates, Jun 28, 2008 7:05 PM EDT

You know who's open to the whole changing positions/lineup slots for the good of the team thing? B.J. Upton. He's batting leadoff tonight and Marc Lancaster provided this quote from Upton:

Joe Maddon approached Upton last night about moving up to the top of the order and “it was a pretty quick answer for me,” said the center fielder.

But he's not a team leader or anything like that, nope.

MVP = Upton!

Love Beej in the leadoff spot. It just makes sense.

Best players need to get the most ABs

So Upton/Longoria being in the top 3 is great.

Question: CC Sabathia...

if the stanks were to trade for CC who would they trade? Do they have anyone that the Indians would want, aside from Jeter and A-Rod?

I'd imagine Joba is untouchable.

Possibilities: Hughes/Tabata

Kennedy/Tabata/Jackson

Cano/Tabata or Jackson or Kennedy

Cano?

who would play second then for the Stanks? See, when looking at these names, I don’t really see anyone that I would go “yes this guy will help us out.”

There was an article this morning in my local paper about the Rays.

by pmoc on Jun 28, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

or course we’re not..and obviously a hr would be better…but an out for a run is certainly productive….no one is saying an out to move a runner is a good thing..unless its moving him to home plate…

by pmoc on Jun 28, 2008 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with most RJ...

But that was as productive an out as you can get…

by tallyray on Jun 28, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just for fun...

The run expectancy says that the Rays were in a worst position after the out than they were before. But of course that would be true.

Runners on 2,3 and 0 outs gives a run expectancy of 2.03
Runner on 3 and 1 out gives an expectancy of .97

So basically Longo changed the run expectancy by only .06 runs (considering the run scored). with his out. That has to be the smallest dropoff after an out possible.
