Brett Myers
I have been enthusiastic about Brett Myers for two years hoping that the Rays might find a way to acquire him. Recently I have been discussing this again and now read this posting at mlbtraderumors.com.

After his latest poor start, Brett Myers' future with the Phillies could be up in the air. When asked about Myers' job security, Manager Charlie Manuel told The Inquirer's Todd Zolecki: "Can I say his job is secure? I don't know what to say, if you want to know the truth. We'd have to find somebody to do his job first, I guess."

I realize he has been awful this year, and if there is a physical problem that would change matters. But he may really be a perfect example of someone who simply needs a change of environment, and if that is the case, now might be the time to jump in. He might be available for very little. He could slot as a starter or reliever given his experience.
All his numbers are worse than usual this year. Nonetheless, he is still striking out 7.78/9 IP. His BB rate is up, but still under 4 (3.89/9), and his HR rate, usually high anyway, is even worse this year. Assuming he is not damaged, at age 27 he remains a real talent.

Everyone already knows, but I'll be the first to bring it up.
As long as the front office doesn’t mind his run-in with a reporter last year when he had to be restrained by teammates and his public run-in with his wife’s face the year before. Possibly not, given Julio Lugo. Who knows.
Longlorious.

His problem seems tto be...
getting back into that starters mentality. He went from a starter to a closer for a year and back to starter (this year). Smoltz and Dempster did fine mentally going back to being a starter, but Myers is still struggling with it. And yea, change of venue plus a different pitching coach as well (another eye maybe seeing whats wrong mechanically possibly) could help

FUCK YEAH!
Finally, a move designed to keep the loud-mouthed player’s wives in check!

Phillies would most likely be eating a lot of that if a deal were to be done

Well I got that
But I am asking how much we would have to give up in order for them to take on his remaining salary?

HE IS ALSO A WIFE BEATER
How is it that he isn’t a PR nightmare but Bonds (who is a bat that we need) is?

According to Fangraphs, his fastball is down from 92.1 mph last season to just 89.8 this season. So there’s a good chance that a change of scenery nor regression will help him.

You also have to consider...
He was coming out of the pen last year as opposed to being a starter this season. That could have an impact on his velocity.

Why the heck would Philly deal him?
They’re in the thick of a race and they need starting pitching help even with Myers in the rotation…

If they
are disillusioned with him and think they could get a better starting pitcher for this year. I agree it is unlikely, but they may feel he is not helping at all this year. Would you deal Jackson or Sonnanstine for him? Or Niemann? or Talbot?

I'd deal any of those four for him.
The Phillies, however, would not.

I wouldn't deal E-Jax or Sonny for him right now
They are both younger, cheaper, and better (against better competition) so far this year…

Harang
I think he would be a better option and less expensive. I don’t know if Cincy would be willing to part ways with him, but they are 11 games back and need to do something. His 3-10 record will only help us in this situation, kinda of like the opposite of the Matt Holliday effect.
