If Percy goes on the DL....
Percy has to go on the DL now. I used to pitch, and could see he has been favoring his hamstring on his follow through. These could lead to a ton of problems if he continues to pitch...namely, the Rays blowing leads and him getting more injured. So Who gets called up? Is Reyes close? Salas is on the 7 day DL right now, so I dont think he is the guy. Is Niemann the guy? Dohmann has pulled a Balfour and is dealing down there...Thayer has posted good numbers.
I am assuming Reyes will be the guy, but if not, who do you guys see?

I would like to see Neimann's career as a RP get started
and Wheeler would be a much better closer

Wut?
Percival has been dissapointing as of late. Pitching on one leg will do that to you. He needs to heal up. He’s the best pitcher in the bullpen when he’s at 100%, but our bullpen is so good that he might be the worst at 70%.

If Wheeler can be the closer, I'll agree with that
IMO you can’t be the best guy in the bullpen if you can’t close games, regardless of whether or not you’re actually tasked with it. If I remember correctly in Houston, he wasn’t as good standing in for Brad Lidge as he was getting the game to him. He is lights-out as a setup guy though.

They must keep the aged reliever merry-go-round moving.. so we are due for a Reyes sighting.
Otherwise, Dohmann.

I wouldn't mind dealing for Fuentes at this point
Percival has definitely gotten the job done, but I’m getting the impression he’s working on borrowed time.

I dont like the idea of giving up prospects for a reliever....
I liked the way Reyes looked in his last few appearances before he went down. I’d be curious to hear some scouting reports on how Dohmann is throwing stuff-wise, because his numbers are awesome.

No reason to get crazy...
Reyes activated and Wheeler the primary closer.

I hope Thayer as a temporary stop gap until Reyes returns.
Anyway, when was Trever Miller’s last effective outing? My wife and I cringe whenever he comes in the game (yes, more than Glover/Hammel) because he LOVES walking the left handed batter he’s brought in to face. I know his Batting Average numbers are good versus lefties, but how many has he walked?

Miller's WHIP against Lefties is about 1.10...
Which is pretty good.

He has 6 walks in 11 2/3 innings against lefties
And his WHIP is actually 1.20 against lefties

Leave Percival on the DL until his leg is healthy again. I mean completely healthy and he’ll be ready for the stretch run where he IS needed. This may be a break that Troy needed since he hasn’t pitched in over two seasons. His arm may be a bit wary as we know his leg is.
My vote is for Neimann to be called up and he will be as Indians GM Mark Shapiro wants to see Jeff throw. Talking to a few hombre’s from Cleveland they’re dropping Neimann’s name up there so negotiations must be in order.
My ultimate vote would be to trade Neimann for Sabathia and put Edwin in the pen. Unlike many, I love Jacksons arm and don’t want to see him go. I believe he could be dominant in the pen.

I would imagine it would take another elite prospect...
To land Sabathia. Maybe a Brignac along with Niemann. Hell, I’d try and trade Jackson and Niemann for Sabathia, but I just dont think that would be enough.

Niemann + Brignac won't be enough
Sabathia is the best piece on the market. There are 2 other teams in our own division in need of pitching not to mention the NL teams that need help.

The last time the Indians dealt a top-shelf arm near the deadline, they sent Bartolo Colon to the Expos for Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore and Brandon Phillips.
Phillips was a top-ranked 20-yr-old SS in Triple-A. Lee was dominating Double-A. Sizemore was the athletic 19-yr-old OF in high-A just starting to figure things out.
Granted, Omar Minaya isn’t too bright.. but yes, it will definitely take a lot more than Niemann and Brignac.
Longlorious.

Niemann and Brignac are 2 top 100 players in the minors...
It may take a bit more, but not a whole lot I would think. They have to get rid of Sabathia.

To be fair to Omar, the Expos were fighting to literally exist the following season. Omar had to do everything he could to make the team decent (they were off to a reasonably good start that year) and he didn’t have to worry about the future at all.
But I agree: it will take more than Niemann and Brignac. Davis and Brignac, perhaps…

Talking about the Expos brings back memories.
I was at this game: Glavine vs. Colon: July 2002, Montreal.
Guerrero and Cliff Floyd hit big HR’s and Colon threw a CG. It was one of the funnest games I’ve ever attended. The next day, Wil Cordero hit a grand slam off Damian Moss and took a blowout win, then it was all downhill from there.
I still say the fans were not the issue in Montreal, but the white elephant stadium (total spent: $1.4 billion Canadian in construction and repairs to the constantly broken roof) made it virtually politically impossible to build a new baseball-only park and the relative lack of competitive media outlets killed that source of revenue and also resulted in sub-par coverage of the team.
I would agree they were fighting for their existence in Montreal, but contraction was purely a negotiating ploy. Minaya and four years of shady MLB ownership dismantled what was once a great farm system.
Back on topic:
Davis and Brignac might get it done. I have to think Niemann’s stock has fallen from that of a top 100 prospect.
Longlorious.

On a side note...
I was told by a friend that is close with Sabathia, that he prefers to sign with an NL club next season. Apparently, he loves hitting. He knows the Yankees will offer a ton, so that is an option, but he would rather go to the NL.
Which would be great if he stayed out of our division.

How about
Niemann to the Yankees for Abreu? They need young pitching, we need a right fielder with some OBP/OPS. I could live with that.
