MLB came down hard on the Rays for Thursday's brawl, suspending James Shields for six games, Jonny Gomes and Edwin Jackson for fives games each, Carl Crawford for four games and Akinori Iwamura for three games.

Jackson’s will be reduced, and he won’t miss a game. Shields will miss one game, Gomes got off easy and is no big loss, CC’s will be reduced to 2 or 1, and i could see Aki’s getting tossed out all together, or just one game. They will be staggered, really no big deal, and well worth it.
these things usually get reduced. shields probably won’t, and he’ll miss one game. i think all my others are right on as to what will probably happen.

that’s how it always is. So shields won’t miss a start, neither will e-jax. CC will miss at most 3 (his knee could use the rest), Aki misses 2, and Gomes 4. No biggie.
LaTroy Hawkins appealed and lost. He still has to serve three games, which actually helps the Yankees.
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Manny bitched out Youkilis about throwing his helmet/bat after the team has told Youk to cool it multiple times. Hence the fight.

The suspensions for Shields, Gomes, Crisp and Lester are slated to begin tonight.
Crawford’s suspension is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Jackson’s suspension is scheduled to begin next Friday.
Casey’s suspension is scheduled to begin next Saturday.
Iwamura’s suspension is scheduled to begin Tuesday the 18th.
Anyone remember Lance Carter’s suspension from the April 2005 brawl against Boston? It seems to me that he got suspended for a couple games, appealed it, had multiple appellate hearings delayed, and finally ended up serving the suspension during interleague play two months later. The appellate process is a joke.

The MLB shows how incompetant they are and they take it out on a smaller market team and let the big money draw walk by.
The MLB didn’t “take it out” on anybody. It was your fooll@ss team that charged out there like some drunken idiots. I think Carl Crawford should have gotten MORE time for taking those sissy cheapshots. But it’s okay, Boston beat you fools like an old Rug..

What the hell is one of the worst teams in the league, ran by a bunch of morons, doing to you, in your own place? 8-0? Holy crap. At least we lost to a good team three times in a row, you’re getting beat by a team with Jose Vidro batting fourth.

Yes. the Rays got 23 player games. our main rival in the division also got 15 player games. and really the starting pitchers are really just 1 game suspensions, so the Rays is actually 14 player game while the Red Sox got 11 player games…and really are were worried about missing an Edwin Jackson start? So the Rays will lose 1 start from a good pitcher and so will the Sox. The Rays will lose 7 games to starting position players and the Sox lose 10.
everything evens out in the end.
small price to pay for a piece of dignity and for playing the game the way it is supposed to be played.
got a problem with that? than put on a pair of panties, and go find a softball team to root for.

You’re playing to win the game, that’s the ultimate goal, no? The “right” way is to win, and do everything you can to win. How does getting your best pitcher on that night tossed 1 inning in help you win the game? The “right” way is far too ambiguous in nature and can be thrown out by fans to defend nearly any stupid action.

who is more qualified on “playing the game the right way”. YOU? or Joe Maddon, Don Zimmer, George Hendrick and Steve Henderson, a bunch of guys that 6 million years of major league experience? they obviously think that the way it was handled was the “right way”.

Your Joe Maddon Death Watch meter would go off the charts if he said he didn’t support his players. Honestly do you expect anything different from Maddon after all of this time publicly backing his players to demean them?
He’s loyal in the media to a fault, I think you’ve mocked him for it in the past so you’re very much familiar with that trait.
How many times did Joe Torre support his guys hitting people and acting like thugs? How many titles did he win?

do you honestly think that Shields would do this on his own. i was going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you played baseball at SOME level. but if you think that Shields went after Crispy without talking to Maddon first, then you are really naive about how a professional baseball clubhouse works.

I don’t believe I said that, but since you want to call me naive about the clubhouse I’ll ask you: who do you talk to in the clubhouse? Are you in the clubhouse? Do you know Joe Maddon personally? James Shields?
I’m sorry we disagree about this, but I’m not getting into this considering how you’re approaching my comments all ready.

Like in your profile, it’s so obvious. I should’ve known it. My mistake. There’s no mysteries here, no mistaken identities, no doppelgangers, nothing, that I didn’t suggest this.
We’ll have to agree to disagree, and thank you for the compliment on my undergarment selection.

The goal isn’t to win a singular game, the goal is to win the most games possible in the regular season and win the world series. If the only goal is to win a specific game at hand you wouldn’t see a lot of the things that happen in baseball. It is a marathon, not a sprint.

It may or may not. Unless you are Mr. Cleo I don’t think you can predict the net effect of the fight.

We lose CC for a few games. Plus you are possibly overstating his impact since he is hurt. I’m just not going to predict the future. Historically there has been times where a fight like this has helped a team, hurt a team, or had no impact. It is way too soon to predict how it will change the course of the Rays season. If I was a betting man I’d say this will have zero impact or a positive impact. Obviously you disagree, but thats okay. If everyone bet on the same thing nobody would ever make money!
“I’d say this will have zero impact”
Probably. Just would have been nice to see Shields give us a better chance to win yesterday. Fortunately, the suspensions are relatively light and we didn’t lose anyone to injury as a direct result.
Longlorious.
That Fool wouldn’t even take on Coco one-on-one. He has to have his ‘team’ gang up 5 on 1. Wow, he throws 90 mph rock at somebody and then throws sissy punches that don’t connect. About the only thing he didn’t do was call on his older brother. Sheesh.

Learn to spell his name, he was almost your manager.

I know a ton of intelligent and reasonable Red Sox fans, you’re giving them a bad representation here.

I never claimed I was a ‘representative’ of anyone. Secondly, you ought to be more worried about the ‘representation’ your team gives when those idiots gang up on someone 5 on 1. What a bunch of Morons. I hope they wear raincoats next time they come to Boston. ;]
They’re grown men, and I think I voiced my displeasure enough. At the end of the day I support the team.
What I would be concerned about is coming down here again soon. Remember last time? I don’t think the Sox respond well to cowbell and A/C.
Best wishes to Jacoby and Manny, I like them both despite their colors.

Sounds like you are just upset that your team held a circle jerk around Crisp as he was getting his ass pummeled by numerous Rays.
