Could Sexson be the new Gomes?
I'm not sure I'd advocate this, but if we wanted to upgrade from Jonny Gomes for cheap, the newly released Richie Sexson may be an option. (?)
Now before everyone flames me for it, look at his numbers versus lefthanded pitching.
Avg. .344/OBP.423/ SLG.623.
Gomes meanwhile:
.194/.289/.432
I'd rather turn to a Xavier Nady or similar more dependable option, but Sexson, for as bad as he's been is better against lefties than Gomes this year.

Sample Size
Gomes has 83 PA’s against LHP this year….Not nearly enough to draw the conclusion that Sexson hits lefties better.
Career Lines vs. Lefties:
Gomes: .274 .376 .517 .893
Sexson: .265 .369 .510 .879
3 Year Splits vs. LHP (05-07)
Gomes: .299 .402 .551 .953
Sexson: .258 .374 .507 .881
Not convinced Sexson would be an upgrade…and that’s before considering the fact he can’t play the outfield.

Those number are in 61 AB's versus lefties...
Too small of a sample size. In the past seasons he has been inconsstent versus lefties. Sometimes performing well above average, and other times below average.

Sexson had 20 hits in June
19 singles, 1 double. He has 4 XBH in his last 100 at bats.
There is nothing left in that bat.

Bad Idea
All round and Sexson can’t play the OF so I have no idea where he would fit. It would still leave a whole in RF vs LHP.
Xavier Nady or Bust!

Why would we want Sexson
when we have Dan Johnson in triple A.
I don’t see Sexson being that much better.

go after Xavier Nady or Jason Bay
I say trade Neiman and Ruggiano for which ever one of these guys it will get probably Nady

You don't want Richie Sexson.
His batspeed is gone. He can’t even play a passable 1B.

Sexson is beyond horrible
he has no business being in the major leagues.

Sexson?? They need Holliday and can get him
They need to work a deal with Colorado for Fuentes and Holliday..They could start with Gomes, Niemann and Ruggiano. I know we value our prospects but Holliday is young and an amazing talent. They would most likely have a very good chance at resigning him if they are serious about the future and spending money. With those 2 we could be legitimate pennant contenders for the next 5-6 years atleast.

We have no rightfield solution in this organization.
It must be addressed by trade. Right field is a cornerstone position on contending teams that feature bats that contribute to the lineup day in and day out.
Bobby Abreu
Vladimir Guerrero
J.D. Drew
Jermaine Dye
Pat Burrell
Corey Hart
we run a platoon out there, that is a liability defensively (unlike those above) and one that offers zilch against lefties

Burrell plays left
4 of the remaining are defensive liabilities. JD Drew is close to a defensive liability.

Why trade for such an easily filled position?
Plenty of guys who cost very little can play RF on the cheap. You don’t have to have elite players all over the diamond.
