btw, I heard THIS yesterday:

“ESPN’s Buster Olney stated today that the A’s are looking to quickly trade away Matt Murton and possibly Huston street to either the Padres or the Rays.”

I saw that too

I would love adding street’s arm and Murton will make a great platoon player.

Oh, and just out of curiousity

what order would we likely see the pitchers come into the game with a 1 run lead if we got Street or Fuentes?

street would have to be the closer

Fuentes might work set-up if Percy came back strong.

I'd suspect

7th – Wheeler, Balfour, Reyes
8th – Percival (though Maddon promised him closer duties so he’d probably remain 9th)
9th – Street

or

7th – Wheeler, Balfour, Reyes
8th – Fuentes
9th – Percival

Either way, damn that’s a good bullpen.

agreed

One other thing about this is it will keep all the arms fresh. No Percy on back to back days. Rarely have to use a guy the next day after going more than 1. That would be nice.

I'd have to agree...

look at the value placed on K-rod (by hisself). Give any other closer that same job and he more then likely comes out within a save or 2 of K-rod. It’s nice having someone you know can close out games, but your team has to get him into that position first. And if you’re constantly up by 1-3 runs in the 9th, you’re closer is going to have a whole bunch of saves.

K-Rod is really good at being on a team that gets him lots of save opportunites.

As to how well he pitches in those save situations, he’s not any better than other top-tier closers (Nathan, Rivera, Jenks, Soria, Wagner, etc).

Whoops....

responded to the wrong post by you :). But yea, we’d see something like:

7th – Balfour, Reyes
8th – Wheeler/Street
9th – Street/Percival alternating days, perci gets the bulk of the work.

This way, if we need to give wheeler a rest after 3-4 days of back to back work, we can stick Street in to give him a break and then put in Perci. If perci works back to back days, we can put wheeler in in the 8th and street in in the 9th.

Interesting that they would suddenly throw away their closer like this.

That's Beane's MO

He recognizes how overvalued closers are. He drove up the value of Koch and Taylor and traded them. In the two deals, he netted two MR you may have heard of (Isringhausen and Keith Foulke). After they bothe were used as closers he let the two walk and took the compensation. You will probably never see Beane trade for an established closer or sign one. It is generally a waste because ONE STAT can drive up their value.

I hope he's a Ray.

Any updates on this? I can’t find anything on the net.

What did we hear about the Harden deal?

Plus, Olney had a report. DON’T MAKE ME LOSE FAITH.

I like Huston Street

But the pen hasn’t been out problem all year. We have one glaring hole that has been hurting us this year. The pen hasn’t been the problem. I’d rather us trade away our prospects to fill that hole compared to making our strong suit even stronger.

Don't tell my wife, but I will give my first born child for Huston Street.

I will feel like a huge ass if Street comes to Tampa, believe you me.
