Evan Longoria has added another item to his itinerary for next week. The rookie 3B was invited Friday afternoon by Major League Baseball to participate in Monday’s Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium.

I'm worried

he is going to pull a Piazza

by Sveet on Jul 11, 2008 5:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ive said this before

He likely will. He isn’t a BP beast by any stretch. He gets his power form his wrists.

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My perspective

Home Run Derby is nothing more than the last 10 minutes of batting practice. If you hurt yourself in HRD, you are doing it wrong.

We’ve never had anyone in the HRD. Canseco was supposed to, but he got injured a couple of games before and missed the rest of the season. I wanna see it.

by kericr on Jul 11, 2008 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well not the rest of the season,

more like all but like the last 20 games. Enough for it to have mattered.

I dont think he'll get hurt

I was just saying BP shots aren’t his specialty. No shame in that. I’d rather be Evan Longoria than Jonny Gomes.

Ironically

They take BP before the Home Run Derby

Abreu

Hopefully he doesn’t pull an Abreu.

by rays_world_champs on Jul 11, 2008 5:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Based on what I've seen of him in BP

He could easily win the damn thing. Not because he hits moonshots, but he can consistently drive the ball out when its his objective.

Watching Ichiro take BP is mind-numbingly awesome.

His bat control is ungodly, and if you’ve never seen him hit right handed it is quite a sight to behold.

by acblue on Jul 11, 2008 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I saw it

this season. It was a lot of fun. He hit a ball 450 feet. It almost hit the wall directly down the RF line.

Apparently the favorite to

Piss off vindictive people when he wins the Derby

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes

But its really not so much about winning and losing, as putting on a show. Often the favorite will hit a ton of home runs in the first few rounds (often more than the eventual winner’s total), and then bow out in the subsequent rounds.

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

By the way

When you get over yourself, I’d strongly recommend you watch a Hamilton BP session. He has ungodly power to all fields. One of the few lefties I’ve ever seen that can consistently put a BP fastball in the left field bleachers (ten rows up of more)

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

His Raw power is absurd

He’s going to be so much fun to watch. Although you might have to mute the TV with Berman announcing.

And use a DVR

My only beef with the Home Run Derby is that it seems only 10% of the time is spent hitting home runs.

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

It’s absurdly long.

actually i have nothing against Hamilton,

i actually like the guy, and am not at all mad that he’s not on our team.

now that that’s out of the way:

1. take a fucking joke, b/c that’s what it was.
2. if you don’t think he’s on hgh, then you are fooling yourself.

by davidsmarch on Jul 11, 2008 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dude

you realize we’re talking about a guy who was compared to Mickey Mantle coming out of HS right? You also realize that there is a ton of evidence that HGH doesn’t do that much for a person right?

He’s not any bigger than he was when he was in HS. I actually see almost no evidence at all that he’s on HGH. He’s a natural freak who’s more blessed with natural talent than every other player currently playing the big leagues.

yes, and Rocco is ted williams,

so what? i see unnaturalness, only time will prove whom is correct.

by davidsmarch on Jul 11, 2008 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That was unwarrented

Rocco never had anywhere near that kind of ability. Hammy on the other hand did/does. Out of HS, his only tool under 70 was his defense. That was only a plus tool, not plus plus like his other 4. I don’t think you understand how absurdly talented that is. In the last 20 years there have been 2 other hitting prospects in his league (A-Rod and Griffey).

"I see unnaturalness"!=If you don’t think he’s on hgh, then you are fooling yourself."

Seriously, you can think whatever you want, but there’s no evidence that you’re right that isn’t totally subjective.

It was Joe DiMaggio

And you’ve made this mistake at least one or two other times.

you should know, at this point i make this mistake on purpose

Having actually taken HGH in my younger years (before it was made illegal)

I see no evidence that he is using, unless everybody with a lean frame is immediately a suspect. HGH is completely different from roids. It doesn’t add a great deal of muscle mass, but rather makes what you have much more toned.

by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 11, 2008 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well then

Where can I get some?

by rglass44 on Jul 12, 2008 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Before 1998

You could legally buy HGH precursors in Florida(which unlike Androstene actually work and work quite well). They were marketed under names such as Blue Nitro, and Renewtrient, and sold at many gyms and Health Food Stores. The major impetus for banning them wasn’t as much a health concern, as fears that they were being used as date rape drugs (If you use too much it will knock you out for at least 4 hours, so this was a legit concern)

At the time I started using it, I was a hardcore gym rat, and used several supplements, including Androstene and Creatine. I broke no laws, and wasn’t gaining an unfair advantage in any organized sports. I must say, HGH defniitely works, but not in the way most would think. While my strength increased somewhat (nothing dramatic), the biggest benefits I found were that I lost a lot of fat, and was able to get what felt like a full nights rest in 4 hours.

Which is why I think it’s ridiculous to hear someone say “He has to be on HGH….Just LOOK at him!”

Sounds good to me. Wish I could get a scrip.

Me: Doctor, I am always tired, and look at this belly.
Dr: Here’s some HGH
Me: sweet

I knew this was coming

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.
