DRaysBay vs RaysBay?

I bet this has been asked a ton, but...is there a reason that you're sticking with the D in your name? I was curious, so I did a search of your archives, and found this quote:

Yeah, but we're remaining DRaysBay RaysBay is taken. by R.J. Anderson on Nov 9, 2007 7:10 AM EST

I looked just now, and raysbay.com is open and available to register. Would there be any interest in changing the name now that the site is available? Or is it not worth the hassle?

Also, if this post is lame/redundant/spam, just say so and I'll delete it.

[I feel like I should introduce myself. I'm an Angels fan living in Seattle and I've taken refuge with the denizens of LookoutLanding. I, along with a lot of others from LL, greatly enjoy/envy the way the Rays front office is run, and I'm finding it very exciting watching a team with so much young talent maturing and beating up on the hated Red Sox and Yankees. I can't wait to see the Rays when they come into town in a few weeks, and will probably be wearing a Longoria shirt to the games.]

From what I understand from Patrick, who at the time was the only one who spoke to SBN

They didn’t want to register the new domain and such. Not sure if that’s changed, but essentially that’s why we’re still DRaysBay.

Mostly correct

I also didn’t want to change the domain name either, I didn’t think it was important enough to bother with.

"I didn't think it was important enough to bother with."

For that you will be charged $1.

Also, Draysbay is already viewed well by Google and has a high page rank...

It would take some time for a new URL to accomplish that

by td32 on Jul 14, 2008 11:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not really.

You can keep the old URL and the new too. Both can lead to the same site.

But the new site would have the same relevance to Google as the old one...

So when someone searched for a Drays blog, the new one wouldnt come up for a while, compared to Draysbay.

If we're going to change it from DRaysBay

Shouldn’t we have something more original, like many of the titles for SBN blogs? Like “16th Avenue Heartache”? “Juice Box Times”? “Bayshore Blues”?

Personally I’m happy with DRaysBay, but if we have to change it, why not make it something more memorable? “RaysBay” isn’t terribly inspiring and/or meaningful.

I haven't spoken to anyone about a name change, including R.J.

But I’d imagine that if any change was made, we wouldn’t do RaysBay, we would move to something entirely different. I have no real attachment to the DRaysBay name, and keeping any derivative of it is not a priority.

Maybe at some time in the future we will change, but I don’t place any real importance in it. Perhaps in 2010 around the site’s fifth anniversary.

At least it's not as generic, as, say....

We use more than one stat here.
