Talent need not apply at ESPN
EY is the younger version of Joe Morgan.
I want Dan Shulman, Orel, and Phillips to do every game I see on ESPN. That is a good group when they work together.

At least Joe Morgan sounds competent and can string sentences together, even if it's all bullshit
Eric Young just sounds stupid, and would still sound stupid if he said intelligent things.
As it should

I haven't been this excited for an ASG in awhile

I love how the Yankee fans remind me why I hate the Yankees

that is my point
If we want to truly try to compete our big move can’t be for a platoon player. I doubt we see the Yanks or Sox go out and trade for a platoon guy.
I don't get this attitude that we aren't going to compete
Unless we make a big move.
Through more than half of the year we’ve had a top defense/pitching staff with no sure signs of regression laying ahead and a middle of the pack offense which is actually above the midpoint in OBP/SLG.
Maybe I’m just quirky in thinking we’re truly trying to compete whether we acquire Holliday, Bay, Murton, or someone like Blake.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 15, 2008 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions
I think the Rays are past the point of trying to experiment on unknowns
If they want to compete, they need to get someone who has a track record. They can’t afford to gamble on a player that may be good or may not. This is why Price isn’t the answer this year either.
Then just say that.
Nobody is saying he’s a better player than Bay/Holliday, we’re simply saying he presents an alternative that makes more sense, in our opinions, for the long term.
Quoting small sample sizes as proof of talent doesn’t help anyone.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 15, 2008 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think anyone is discrediting him completely
Saying he’s an .900 OPS guy is giving him credit that:
A) His road numbers are hardly indicative of his true talent.
B) His home numbers are inflated some.
C) He’s a really good player.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 15, 2008 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions
His home and away splits alone nearly discredit this train of thought
He’s simply a much much better hitter there. With the stigma of coors canaveral, there’s not much of a way to know if he’s a better hitter at coors or a better hitter at home.
Also, I’m sure that Vinnie Cashsteala is floating in the back of the NRO.
In retrospect
Maybe it isn’t much of a stretch. He’s compared to Griffey Jr, and in 99 not only was Griffey in his prime, but absolutely unbelievably skilled. Griffey had similar hype coming out as the next coming of baseball Jesus. Griffey also tried to kill himself I believe after his 2nd year.
Mantle was thrown around for Hammy

Who cares? The Bucs are gonna trade for Favre
Actually, I couldn’t care any less about the Bucs right now. I’m completely disenchanted with the team.
lack of interest
It seems like the entire NFC South has gotten a lobotomy. All of the rivalries are dying, everyone is getting so old.
A solid franchise QB isn't going to make me feel better.
I hate the way Gruden coaches the offense. I hate the constant things I hear about players being screwed. I hate the fact that I honestly think that Cadillac Williams will be the starting running back by week 8 regardless of how well Graham does, and I think that somehow, Gruden will figure out a way to sabotage Graham’s production to justify it.
Most of all, I despise the fact that Jerramy Stevens is still on this team, and that Bucs fans basically had the wool pulled over their eyes. And I hate the fact that Bucs fans have been left only with an explination from Bruce Allen, not the Glazers, as to why this guy was resigned.
I hate this ballclub, plain and simple. They could go 19-0 and I still wouldn’t root for them. Until things change, I’ve reverted to being a Browns fan.
What is the deal with Gruden
Is he on the hot seat? He won the super bowl but hasn’t seem to done much since.
I don't even know if the Glazers are paying attention
I think they’re more concerned with keeping Cristiano Ronaldo on Man U.
Hopefully Cadillac learns whatever has kept Dunn in the league so long.
I definitely understand what you’re feeling. There is no communication and it’s difficult to tell exactly what the long-term plan is. Have the best offensive line possible?
I think the Saints are in pretty good shape
Outside of them, I’d say you’re right.
I really hate Gruden’s obsession with “veterans.” Fuckin dumb.
I think I'm an extreme example.
I’ve renounced my home team out of protest and refuse to come back until things change. I’m more concerned about making a point that I’m jumping off the bandwagon of a division winner. I’m not leaving because the team plays poorly, I’m leaving because the team treats its fans and it’s players like crap.

They need to relax the rules in the AS Game....
since one of the goals is to get everyone in (it’s stupid this determines homefield…it should be fun). And as long as everyone has played (bench), you can start putting them back in.. Then there’s no “ok, tie ball game, it’s all over”.
I mean, would there ever be a Randy Johnson/John Kruck moment if the AS game counted?
I was going to ask the same

Disagree
They don’t play as hard as you’d see in a playoff game, but you certainly don’t see the Randy Johnson/John Kruk yuk yuk crap that used to exist in the game.
Maybe not

Gotta love BR's useless stat of the day...
Tim Redding finally got a win on Friday night ending his streak of 9 consecutive starts without a decision. (1 short of the (post 1956?) record ).
However, Redding did pitch 6 innings in that game, keeping alive an unprecedented (at least since 1956) streak. Since April 13 Redding has made 18 starts. In every single one of those starts he has pitched at least 5 innings, but no more than six and 1/3. This by far shatters the (post 1956) record of 13 consecutive starts.
9 = 8
