Yankees seriously considering Bonds
as opposed to Sexson. They may even consider signing both. Dodgers and D-Backs also listed as other possible destinations. Rays mentioned as a "good" place for him because if he could help the Rays make the playoffs, it would help his image. It would also generate fan interest as he chaces 2,000 RBI and 3,000 hits. Check out article on Fox Sports if you haven't already. BTW Buster Olney has said the Pirates asking price for Nady is WAY high right now but thinks the Rays may wait it out and try to get him right at trade deadline if he's still available because that's who they really covet. If not he said they are likely to try and get Matt Murton for Niemann and another lower level arm.

Winning here probably doesn't help his public image
Nothing will because people have been trained to think he’s the biggest asshole cheater in the world. Thankfully I don’t care about that, but I do care about winning, and I’ve been on this Bonds bandwagon since before it was built.
Unfortunately it’s not happening.
Muton for Niemann...
sounds like another Nick Green for Jorge Sosa deal… Chris Mason and Kyle Ayers for Morton. Morton is not lighting the score card up.

"It would also generate fan interest as he chaces 2,000 RBI and 3,000 hits."
Uh, no. I have no interest in celebrating career milestones for an extensive cheater (alledgedly). As a matter of fact, I’d hate the fact that it would have to be celebrated.
Allegedly.....
Most of the HR hitters of his time were juicing so he only leveled the field so to speak. He’s no worse than any one else out of this generation of players. I don’t like the guy but by his stats he is arguably one of the 5 best to ever play the game no matter what and we could use him right now. It won’t happen ( The Rays signing him) so it’s a moot point.

I dont think it is even arguable...
He is clearly one of the 2 best hitters of all time. Pitchers were juicing. Hitters were juicing. Most of MLB was juicing. People only hate Bonds cause he broke records and was a jerk. He didnt juice more, he just was better then everyone else, and it wasnt even close.
I agree.
Bonds is the most hated of all the juicers (allegedly). Isn’t it ironic that Yankee fans DESPISE Bonds yet embrace Giambi? Do you think there’d be as much of a stink about it if another Yankee broke the record? I don’t.

Part of that is homefield advantage
Since Giambi was a Yankee for so long. The same thing applies for the Bonds love in SF.
Honestly, if Bonds were signed to come in as the DH, I’d be delighted, he’s all that’s left out there (obviously) the Rays don’t have to give up a single bit of talent to bring him on (as opposed to a trade), and more than likely, in one fell swoop, the Rays offensive issues are solved. He’s that dangerous. But that doesn’t mean I want to celebrate the man’s controversial career.
I am of the opinion that Bonds is innocent until proven guilty, and as far as I know, he never tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, and has never been caught cheating in baseball. But hot damn, there’s a hell of a lot of smoke around it, and I’d find it personally embarassing to be rooting for the team that decides to celebrate these career milestones only to find out less than a year later that my belief as slight as it is, that Bonds is innocent, is actually absolutely wrong.
Id love to get Murton, Street, and Devine
For Niemann, Talbot, Brignac, and Perez or Barnese
I wonder if that would fly…

Ya I guess I am asking a bit much though, Devine is a stud though....
I’m guessing Beane would want Davis or Price and Hellboy for a package like that….

If The Yankees sign Bonds ....
Lets go get Canseco back …. hey we need a righty bat lol. If it is good enough for the Yankees it is good enough for the Rays.
I'm almost at the point where I want the Yankees to sign Bonds...
If the Rays dont have the balls to sign him, and someone else like the Yanks do, then the Rays deserve it.
When George ran the team
They had a history of giving second and even third chances to players no one else would touch (Gooden, Straw, Howe), and were often rewarded for their willingness to take a chance on people.

So apparently the Yanks weren't too interested in signing Bonds.
Rosenthal:The New York Yankees aren’t interested in signing Barry Bonds. But they are on the verge of adding another hitter — Richie Sexson.
