Chris Mason made his debut tonight out of the pen for Durham. I'm assuming this is the move they are making to open a spot for Davis. I think it is a good move and Mason will pitch really well in this role.

Mason through 1 inning just giving up a hit and picking up a hold tonight.

Good news......

Hopefully Davis will continue to have a solid month after shaky end to last…...They planning on using Mason as set up then???

That is a really good question about set-up

They have been using Dohmann to close and they also have Salas and Dale thayer in the pen. Those 4 give Durham a really good pen. Salas is the most talented and Thayer has been lights out this year. My guess is that they will start Mason in the 6-7 inning and depending on how he pitches and potential trades or call-ups (Thayer, Salas) they could move him back to the 8th or 9th.

I like Mason in the Pen.

I think he has the make up for a good middle reliever, he looked good for the most part coming in ST as a middle reliever. So, best of luck Chris Mason.

that is why i dont want to trade davis

i really think that he can be a really reliable #5 starter for the rays next year, and he wouldnt really have that much pressure being a top of the rotation pitcher in his rookie year

While he has a very bright future, I think he would have to be completely lights out the rests of this season

and next spring to make the rotation. Remember barring injury we have Kaz, Shields, Garza, and Price. I would have to assume Niemann, Jackson, Sonny (assuming all of them are still on the team) would all be ahead in line so to speak.

Heh

And I remember being berated this offseason at the mere suggestion that Mason would come up to the Rays as a reliever and not get his chance to start.
