Pirates scouting Price??

  • A Pirates scout watched David Price's last start, though he was likely looking at other members of the Montgomery Biscuits.  The Rays are known to be interested in Xavier Nady. So i am a big Pirates fan, and i must say this intrigued me. But the only way i could see us even coming close to prying him away it would have to be Bay and Marte... So what are you guys thinking, i know you will all shoot it down, but play the what if and if so... what deal could you see?

    Price is going nowhere.

I’m sure the Pirates are scouting him for their own purposes, but he’s not being traded.

    To Get Price:

You need to give us a future ace or a future hall of famer. There is NO WAY on this green Earth that the Rays will pull a “Kazmir-like” trade Price for for say, Gruzalanny or whatever his name is. I am all for dreamers but let’s be real. You don’t trade a way a golden goose for a pyrite gizzard.

why would they trade price when he is about a month away to the bigs?

he is going to be huge for us when he gets promoted here sometime in august most baseball people think

    I dont know

But you dont really have a load of talent at AA right? Especially on a night that Price is pitching…

what do you have in legit prospects at AA?? Saying that, they would have had to be there to scout Price, and i mean we wont scout him for future, he is in the AL right?

    Hellickson and Morlan.

Price is going nowhere, that’s not up for debate.

well that scout is wasting his time if they think he is going to be pitching in the NL anytime soon

are you even sure that this guy is a scout and how are you sure he is looking at price, he doesnt deserve to even look at price!

Hey Schnoah...Close your eyes and envision white clouds and a blue sky kinda like your dreaming

Well imagine David Price on one of those clouds. And You can wake up now because it will never happen.

    MLBTraderumors

Thats where i saw it posted… the thing i give that site credit for is that they dont post about scouts usually… so sounds like there is at least a little smoke there…

Besides, its HIGHLY doubtful… but its just trade chatter… but could be interesting if they are talking a Bay/Marte for Price and someone… dont mind those thoughts… i think were going to do a trade between us, and if we do its going to cost quite a bit. Cause you guys are going to get the itch, and your offense has been HORRIBLE lately, if it wasnt for a 2 run shot tonight, you would have been blanked yet again. You gotta get your big bats hitting again, and Bay or Nady could really boost that offense

by Schnoah on Jul 19, 2008 1:30 AM EDT up reply actions

ya but not for price he is off limits, if you think that the pirates can get price from tampa for anyone then you dont know what you talking about

also bay’s knees are a question mark and i rather have nady since he will cost less in prospects and there is just no way that the rays trade david price since he was only drafted last year and if everything goes right for him he is going to be in tampa in august and sonny and ejax are either going to be moved to the pen or traded, i could see ejax getting traded or sonny going to the pen

    Bays knees?

Ok, where is everyone getting this from? Bay had one season where his knees bothered him and that was last season. That was the only season that he was injured, and he has been good all season, just watch him run. His ONLY knock is his throwing arm.

Nady is the one that's injury-prone, not Bay

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

It's not MLBTR that said anything about scouts, it's Ken Rosenthal

And yes, they have in the past, they’ve said many a times how the Rays scouts were at a recent Rockies game, or at a White Sox/Marlins game. Guess what: we never made a trade with either of those teams.

Scouts go to different games all of the time, it means next to nothing.

Believe me for his sake i dont want him

anytime a prospect comes to pitt they have TJ within 3 months of getting into the system.
The fun thing with it, is that Price was pitching. Also there was an article a few days ago that a Pittsburgh paper did with guys from Tampa’s system, and said that though they wouldnt want to let Price go, if they got what was conceived as Value without sacrificing the entire system for a playoff run that they would do it.

    Only if we're getting

    McCutchen, Bay and Marte

Also they would have to take Gomes, and one of Hammel and Glover. No way they would take both.

    heh

that’s actually exactly what I said over at raysbb.com, thats what we should ask for because then 1 of 2 things will happen. 1) We find a way to steal a deal for Price or 2) They realize not to ask about Price ever again.

    Price not going anywhere

ESPN just had a feature on the AL East yesterday and the analysts all said Price has the possibility to be THE difference maker in the east race in the second half…I like Nady but I think if any trade talks even involved Prices name it would be Bay before Nady and Holliday/Fuentes before either,

by arkansasraysfan on Jul 19, 2008 3:19 AM EDT reply actions

    What if factor...

The only “what if” to discuss is losing the best LH arm that has come along in the last quarter century for not just this season, but for 20 seasons. Bay has been a bust the past few seasons and Nady is just O.K.

There is nothing the Pirates have that Tampa would trade Price for including their entire starting nine and pitching staff for Price. To all the naysayers who state he hasn’t pitched in the BIGS yet, just wait. This guy is PHENOMENAL! King David will dominate on the Major League level as he’s dominated on eevry other level. If one can evaluate talent, you know what I’m speaking of.

    He’s that DAMN GREAT!

Um, Johan Santana? C.C Sabathia? Scott Kazmir? Cole Hamels?

And countless other ‘best arm ever’ guys would disagree with you. And for every one of them there are countless guys like Oliver Perez and Francisco Liriano who never realized their potential.

There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

    I should say

countless guys who had potential before feeling a ‘pop’ one day during warmups.

To get Price they'd have to give the farm

In that trade value column fangraphs made, david price would be in the top 10 if we included minor leaguers.
