Congrats to Cedrick Bowers

One of the original Devil Ray draft picks (4th Round, 1996), after eight years in the Rays system (three at Triple-A) and four years in Japan, Cedrick Bowers finally got "The Call" yesterday; he was promoted to the major leagues by the Colorado Rockies.

I went to high school with him

I was on JV while he was on varsity. I only faced him once, in an intrasquad game. He hit me with the first pitch I saw (which left a bruise for 2 weeks). He then picked me off of first base before throwing his next pitch.

I did get the little league glory of doubling him off of first base on a line drive that I caught practically standing on the bag.

I’m very excited for him and his family. Do Chiefland proud!!!!!

I have a tough decision

Come August 1st. Watch the Rays play the Tigers, or go south to see my hometown boy take on the Marlins (fingers crossed that he sticks with the big league club to make this a dilema).

I think the McDonalds is actually in the Super Wal Mart

Every year when I go up to Tally for Youth in Government, we stop in Chiefland at this one shopping center. And I think, within walking distance, there is a Mickey D’s in the Wal Mart, and a Sonic, Burger King, and Taco Bell nearby. I think I was confusing the Wendy’s with another place on the way.

Wow, that’s a long, boring drive.

Another Wal-Mart is opening in Pinellas Park in September. This one is a Neighborhood Market format instead of the Super. Sounds like the excuse I need to make another visit and catch a couple Rays games in person.
