I don’t remember chinchilla Sturton. Besides, that doesn’t have the same disturbance factor.
Once you see it

Won't be watching tonight
My Mets friend went to me to the Rays game on Friday, I owe him in watching the Mets/Phillies opener tonight. That’s going to be an interesting series.
Im half expecting to see Huston Street to come out on the field in a Rays uniform.
That would be a trade story for all time.
They can have Gomer and Hammel

Lately it's been a mix of Brown/Cust/Crosby/Gonzalez
Unless Gonzalez morphs two years ahead in his progression overnight none of those seem to be upgrades or even equals to Murton.

aybar
18 at first (Pena’s injury—anyone else play first?)
9 at 3B (pre-Longoria, right?)
3 at 2B (rare rest for Aki?)
doesn’t seem like he’s needed in the infield. and he’s not playing the outfield. and he’s not a better hitter than Gomes.
Hinske can play first
Aybar just got a start this past weekend at 3B while Evan played DH. Only 2B when Aki was suspended.

Honestly
I don’t think that’s ridiculous. Brignac is definitely the centerpiece there. Rollins has some projection, but not a high ceiling. Guzman practically has negative value at this point.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Ok here's a better question.
Who are the prospects other than David Price that are deemed untouchable?
Fremont here we come!
by In Beane we trust on Jul 22, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions
I'm not sure we have any that are untouchable outside of him
Hellickson/Davis are the closest we have to that, and even then I’d trade one of them, depending on the deal.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 22, 2008 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Nobody
But obviously there’s a progression (not including recent draftees who can’t get traded yet)
Price >>> Davis / Hellickson >> Brignac / Jennings / McGee >> Niemann / Jaso / Perez / Rollins, etc.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
So is
Hellickson, Brignac, Rollins, Guzman possible. Personally I feel that would be fair. Street is still young and has pitched in big games, and Murton would be nice to have. He can hit lefties pretty well, I know how much you guys struggle against those LHP’s.

by In Beane we trust on Jul 22, 2008 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Plus Balfour Plus Howell. Game over after the 5th.
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
my faith: street, howell, wheeler/balfour, percival
balfour keeps moving up with every inning, though.
Maybe thats why.
A’s announcers said it was a change and I couldn’t disagree since it didn’t seem to have much lateral movement.
Sonny can strike out hitters
which is more than we can say for jackson’s waste of a roatation spot.
The K rates are equal, it's the walk rates that make the difference.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 22, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions
can you name a better 4/5 though?
And Jackson is probably just keeping warm for Price just as Sonny is doing for Davis come next year.
Or just the hard contact rates in general
Have you ever noticed that pitchers with lower velocities tend to have DIPS relative to ERA?
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Well, I'm sure someone could run a study
but I’m too lazy to do so. It’s just something I’ve noticed. Same how knuckleballers have lower hit rates than luck should dictate. Excessively slow righties seem to have higher hit rates than luck should dictate, or at least seem to have higher XBHA%.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Sonny's FB is also 10 mph less than jacksons
Jackson’s results are unacceptable
Atleast I didn't make a Street rumor. Lol.

I don't know
It depends. He’d reach what I’d think his innings limit at the end of September if he continues every 5 days at the end of September. So they might want to make him a reliever so they wouldn’t have to worry about him during the playoffs. We need him soon and he could improve our pen or our rotation. If I was betting, I’d put my money on him going to the pen Joba style.

That's what I was thinking...
Does he replace Hammel? Or do they wait for expanded rosters?
If they wait for September he's not eligible for the post-season roster.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 22, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions
I didnt know that...
What is the reasoning for that?
So you don't wait for the expanded roster
And that rule is exceptionally easy to get around. All you have to do is have someone go on the DL and you can say he’s added in his place. The Angels did this with K-Rod in 01’ when they won the WS.

Ahhh...

what sucks even more
is he lost to the Tribe’s offense and is right now losing to the A’s who bat Matt Murton clean up.
ugh.
Lets see how he finishes up before we criticize...
3 more scoreless innings and it is a quality start…
Can we get our heads out of our backsides please?

Not speaking on just this season either. His value is probably higher to some other teams (Giants let’s say) than to us. Of course that was when we had someone ready to take his place, the only way it would work now is:
