I don't know
It depends. He’d reach what I’d think his innings limit at the end of September if he continues every 5 days at the end of September. So they might want to make him a reliever so they wouldn’t have to worry about him during the playoffs. We need him soon and he could improve our pen or our rotation. If I was betting, I’d put my money on him going to the pen Joba style.

by td32 on Jul 22, 2008 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
So you don't wait for the expanded roster
And that rule is exceptionally easy to get around. All you have to do is have someone go on the DL and you can say he’s added in his place. The Angels did this with K-Rod in 01’ when they won the WS.

this is ridiculous
I don’t understand how none of the problems that have emerged in the game have been addressed at an earlier time. Crawford does not hit with the patience or consistent power to hit third. The line-up is so left-handed that we are completely crippled against average to below average left-handed starters. We continue to play hitters based solely on the fact that they hit with the opposite hand as the pitcher that we forget that they can’t hit – period. Trust me, I hit right-handed but you don’t want to see me up there instead of Hinske. Why would Gabe Gross be your first pinch hitter off the bench? Because he is going in as a defensive replacement? It’s the seventh inning- pinch hit floyd or hinske and throw gross into the field for them – this isn’t the national league – you do not have to save pinch hitters. The team would be far better off if Longoria played shortstop while bartlett is out and aybar played third. Zobrist is a liability offensively and defensively. Trevor Miller cannot throw strikes and even his outs come on fastballs down the middle. Al Reyes is done and has one pitch which must be out of the strike zone for it to be effective. The Rays are in a unique position at this point in the season – leading the American League East. Subpar play that has lasted the entire year cannot be tolerated for the sake of “chemistry.” Gomes is supposedly a bat off the bench and he is hitting under .200. Obviously all of these needs cannot be addressed but something has to be done. We can’t just close our eyes and wake up in September still in the American League playoff race.

I agree
We’re definitely not fielding the best possible 25-man roster. And when guys who are obviously not going to be on the team next year are underachieving (Miller, Reyes, Glover, Floyd) yet still maintaining a roster spot it can get unbearable at times, regardless of our position in the standings.

so now that i'm done venting
what are the chances some sort of trade goes through tomorrow that gains us a reliever and a right handed bat, reyes goes on the dl and salas is brought up?

just to make matters worse
rauch got traded today straight up for a minor league second baseman…. and that was it. A legit reliever under control through 2010. For one minor leaguer. I think we could have made that move. Oh – and nice play zobrist. I don’t care if they gave suzuki a hit. you are a bum. You should get autographs from everyone on your team and the opposing team because it is a miracle you are even in the stadium.

if only we can do all of this....
Have Salas replace Reyes
Dan Johnson replace Floyd
Get Bartlett back and demote Zobrist to Princeton or Hudson Valley or something
Replace Miller with Niemann…..not like Miller is a lefty specialist anyway, hes garbage
or make some trades, we have too many players that don’t play on a playoff team.

I like Johnson
I really do. Hell, I wouldn’t mind if we let Hinske walk during the offseason and let Johnson man the DH role until Jaso takes it from him.
In fact, I could really see that scenario playing out.

Johnson would probably enjoy not having to use suntan lotion.

I'm really excited about Jaso taking over the DH spot next year
I just wanted to get that out there.

agree with most
Salas for Reyes, Johnson for Floyd, ruggiano for gomes, zobrist to hell or princeton, Glover can grab a ride with zobrist, miller for neiman or houser, and stop pinch hitting gross
