WHY NO TRADES? WE CAN DO BETTER

I mean I understand that we are getting Bartlett back soon. But I do not see why we continue to have players who can not even hit .250 in the majors in our games. Of course I say that and Gomez/Zobrist hit HRs in the game today.

Aybar has not impressed and the below .240 avg and only 4 HRs....

Zobrist is below .220 and only 4 HRs....

Gomez is below .200 and only 7 HRs....

Gross is just above .200 and 0 HRs....

There is no one that we can move or even call up that are better then these guys? I mean with Bartlett coming back give Briganic a shot backing him up, Heinske and Floyd are better options in the field IMO, Ruggiano and Dan Johnson could be better options (even though they have struggled in the majors)... But these guys currently there are not doing anything major.

Granted I am not saying give up the farm, but with us making a push at the best season in franchise history... Why not give the guys proving it in the minors or trade for some talent that is better then what we are using.

OK that is just me.... Itching for us to be buyers not sellers this season I guess.

Gomez is a really good British Rock Group.

Jonny Gomes on the other hand just hit his 8th. And Gabe Gross has 7 hr.

Gomes....

LOL…. Yeah….

I have been a Gomes fan… When I lived in Tampa he was always a solid player and was really cool to the fans.

But we are on the cusp of something big… I have no issues with keeping him… I just see better options. And sorry on the Gross misinfo. I think I was looking at the wrong set of stats when I posted that. So my bad….

But Johnson has hit 17HR in AAA, yes its not the same… But I do not see how he can not unseat one of those guys for a place in the rotation IMO or us making a move to get a solid everyday addition where Floyd and Heinkse and DH.

AAA

Heck even Chris Richards has 18 and could unseat Aybar… Again if we were to look internally.

Agree - we need another BIG bat

I don’t see any of those guys at AAA being the answer.

Our current big bats need to start producing

The guys in the minors could give us a bit more roster flexibility. In other words to not play as many lefties vs lefties, maybe give us more options in terms of pinch hitting, and clearly maybe some that could pinch run here and there.

Aybar barely has 1/4 of a season under his belt, he will settle in a bit. He has provided us versatility as a SH and a guy who can play 3 positions in the infield well. Whats the problem? This is what you want out of bench players. He has only 469 career ABs and he’s only 25 years old. His 15/18 BB/K and he sees the ball well and has a good swing from both sides of the plate

Gabe Gross has plus speed, a plus plus arm, reliable defensively, very smart, can play any position in the OF and he is a LH bat with power and not too many holes in his swing. Again, what’s wrong with this guy off the bench or even platooning?

As far as Zobrist goes, he was filling in for a guy on the DL and isnt even valued enough right now to be kept on the 25 man roster as a backup SS. Aside from that, he performed admirably in Bartlett’s place and adds versatility himself as a SH who can play 7 positions.

Kevin Witt's wants a callup too

I’d hardly compare Dan Johnson to Kevin WItt. That’s a stretch, considering Johnson is much younger and has performed in the bigs

It was tongue in cheek...

But Johnson is repetitive at this point.

He may be a marginal upgrade over Floyd but really isn’t worth the effort. He can’t play right better than Gross and probably will hit worse than Hinske (though Hinske has shown statistical decline).

It’s a real shame the Johnson isn’t a righty.

It’s actually pretty ironic. The front office went out of their way this offseason and the beginning of this year to stock up on lefty bats. I don’t think anyone really focused on the lack of righties.

Yeah, well...

...I’d shit a brick. There are so many small easy moves that could be made, and I have to assume the only reason they’re not pulling the trigger on those is they’re waiting to see whether any of the bigger deals might pan out.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

I want a reliever

I see 3.5-4 guys we can count on (the .5 is in recognition of Percy’s health status). The rest it seems are only fit to enter the game when we are well behind.

Josh Hamilton for David Price

An OFer

I think we should bring up Price and Ruggiano and DFA Glover and either Gomes/Floyd and try to trade for Murton.

RH OF

We have so many in-house options for relief that seem more reliable than our in-house options for a RH bat. Bringing up any of Salas, Price or Niemann (who could be dominant in relief if the team wants to put him there) would upgrade the bullpen, although I wouldn’t mind trading for a good LH reliever. The in-house options for a RH bat seem to be Ruggiano, who I honestly don’t think will be a huge upgrade over Gomes (he Ks almost as much, and has much less power and patience), and Rocco Baldelli, who’s just a bit of an injury risk.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

Niemann to the 'pen

Is something I’ve been advocating/guessing will happen for awhile.

It makes a lot of sense.
