Casey Blake has a .903 OPS against lefties.
Erik Hinske has an .888 OPS against righties.
That platoon is nearly as productive of Jason Bay (.898) and won’t cost us the farm.

I assume this is how the RFO is thinking.

Nady and Marte aren't really A players. Nady is due for regression and would cost way more than his production
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
damn cock teases
Marte and Nady were rumored to be traded with Brignac not playing and they wind up in New York.
I hope Nady starts playing like he always did before this season which as far as I know is pretty crappy.
That hurts me feelings.
I wouldn’t mind it so much if it wasn’t the Yankees.
Lets just hope they both regress in the AL.
haha
He hated the Yankees, now he can go back to being awesome. A LOT better than Nady in the future is quite possible.
Pirates had to trade him
McClouth to RF, McCutchen in CF, keep Bay and let him rake in LF. That’s a damn good OF.

I'm going to change my MVP vote to Friedman
I think he gets a deal done tonight. The season so far has been a nice tease and I don’t think he will want to dissapoint by sitting back and letting the Yankees make this move Sox get back Papi without doing anything. Whether it is Bonds or just Blake, I think a deal gets done.
Austin Jackson is rumored to be included
if they gave Tabata and Jackson then they wont be getting anyone else impact….
well except for Johan Washburn of course
WHy couldn't they have told us Tabata and Jackson First.
Then I could have just started laughing then.
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
looking like the Yankees got a steal, Phil Cooke also reported to be in the deal.
Unless Jackson is included, I would assume Tabata would be the main piece coming back
no Jackson
The Pirates will get Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf and two other prospects from the Yankees for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte, SI.com’s Jon Heyman reports.
Pittsburgh came down off its initial price tag an awful long way then. Tabata still has very exciting potential and is incredibly young, but his wrist problem are scary and he’s looking like a headcase. Ohlendorf has never been a good bet to develop into anything more than a sixth- and seventh-inning guy. Pitcher Phil Coke is also believed to be in the deal, and he’s a true long shot to help.
Tabata, Ohlendorf, Phil Coke, and one more
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
hey Pirates
you got ripped off now go make up for it by getting Kemp so we can steal Bay from you. thanks.
that would be like us trading Chris Mason and a less talented Jennings
I’m pretty sure everyone here would take that
It would be like...
SLightly less talented Jennings, Talbot, Glenn Gibson with slightly more worth, and A yound semi-talented reliever with 5 years control.

I would think that they may be wanting less for Bay now…
by EminenceFront on Jul 25, 2008 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Why would it?
Bay is superior to Nady, wants to stay in Pitt, and I don’t really see them trading both this deadline unless someone blows them away.

Didn't Nady have the better contract?
With the better contract, I would think that he would be a more coveted target. With the prospects the Yankees gave up, maybe the Pirates would feel that they wouldn’t need as much now to unload Bay.

I was told things didn’t look well, and I’m still not convinced he’s going to be that part, but don’t mistaken that for me not wanting Rocco to be healthy and playing because Rocco was one of my favorites when he was playing.
Of course he was everyone’s favorites, considering we only had 2-4 good players any given year.

Saw him play in Sarasota against the Reds
Didnt look all that well to me … Maybe there was a legitimate groin injury though. I am not a doctor and he didn’t look like he could keep up. But that was before they sent him to AA for rehab on the groin. But I will say, even a hurt Baldelli on this team is better than Gomes is right now in RF and at the plate. I wasnt too optimistic that he would be coming back but I could be wrong. I would love to see him back but I will remain less than optimistic because I dont think we should count on it.

Considering
his ETA to the majors and our ETA to the world series, I’m not horribly worried about Tim Beckham.
So yeah, I’d LOL. I’m still not thrilled we didn’t take a college player.
Beckham's stats are lying this year though
Tim that is.
I’ll defer to our scouting department on the pick itself.

No, I know.
I’m not worried about his performance this year. Not even a little.
I would have just rather had a college player, by personal preference only.
Davis gave up a homer in the 6th
final line on Brandon Mann
6 innings, 0 r, 1 hit, 2 BB, 3 K

I was talking to my uncle (also a Rays fan) today and asked him what was more likely
complete game shut-out by Jackson or 10 runs from the offense. I think it is sad we both went with the complete game shutout
after seeing the deal today, it would be really sad if we can't get something done.
No use saving our future 8 or 9 man rotation, especially if it may only take 1 of them to get a decent bat
We will see how dedicated the Rays are to winning if they make a trade for another hitter, if not then play-off's are not very likely
i posted this earlier
Casey Blake has a .903 OPS against lefties.

A's closer Street to Dodgers?
A new rumor regarding A’s closer Huston Street seems to surface daily, and Friday’s speculation du jour, courtesy of a scout working Oakland’s game against the visiting Rangers, had the A’s sending Street to the Dodgers for third baseman Andy LaRoche “and change.” LaRoche and Street both participated in pre-game warmups with their respective teams Friday night, though, so if a deal is indeed made, it wouldn’t be announced until late Friday night or at some point over the weekend. LaRoche, a 24-year-old right-handed hitter, is batting .214 with two homers, three RBIs and a .333 on-base percentage in 26 games with Los Angeles this season. Also said to be interested in Street, among others, are the Reds, Rays and Brewers; those same three teams and a handful of others have reportedly kicked the tires on the availability of A’s lefty setup man Alan Embree.
the only question is will he be left at 2nd or 3rd

My friend who has made fun of the Rays all of his life now considers himself a die hard Rays fan. Me and him are watching the game and he tells me how great Jackson is with control. I laughed hard and told him he must be joking, and he was serious. Then I said wait till David Price comes up, he’s better then Jackson and Sonnanstine as a starter RIGHT now.
Then he says, "Sonnanstine? What are you talking about? I'd put him as no .2 in the rotation behind Kaz."
I smiled and said, “Based on what?”
He says, “Dude, he has 10 wins, that’s all that matters.”
