Manager Joe Maddon said before Sunday's game that RHP Gary Glover was ready to come off the DL and that they would have to soon make a decision.
That appears to be imminent, as Glover left the clubhouse after Sunday's game clearly unhappy, and refusing comment.
Glover is flying home to Tampa rather than accompany the team to Toronto, which would seem to indicate he's not going to be rejoining the Rays, and soon could be traded or designated for assignment. - The Heater

I actually feel bad for him.
I know I joke a lot about him, but Glover was nothing but a class act during his time here and for an international signing (well, non-roster invitee who played in Japan) he did more than I could’ve expected.

i feel bad for him too, but he'll clear waivers and maybe be a september callup

nope
he can’t be re-added to the 40-man without someone else being DFA’d.
I suppose he could accept a minor league assignment and they could purchase his contract in september if there’s still a spot open, but that would be extremely pointless imo.

...
Roster is already at 39, and assuming that Rocco will take the 40th spot, I see no reason why someone else couldn’t get DFAed / passed through waivers to get him back on, if he dominates in Durham and/or there are injury issues.

Glover won't be back
He’s behind at least Salas, Dohmann, Thayer, and maybe Debarr.

Glover is below reliever replacement level.
You don’t think either couldn’t do that?

Yes, I don't
Debarr was HORRIBLE in his stint with Pittsburgh (was past ‘below replacement level’), and Thayer is a righty who peaks in the mid-80’s (there’s a possibility he could outperform Glover, but I doubt he’ll get the opportunity).
That, and Glover isn’t below replacement level. He’s below average, but he’s way above replacement level.

Oops
I was confusing Debarr and Meek.
Debarr still isn’t much special though.

... what was your point?
I’m aware that the 40-man will be at 39 when Glover is DFA’d, Salas is reinstated, and Rocco is activated, but that won’t matter until September since no one is currently an option candidate.
And who in hell would we DFA to get Glover back on (regardless of what he does in Durham)?

No, it's at 39 now
Unless I’m recalling things incorrectly, the Front Office has kept the 40-man roster down to 39 all season.

it’s possible that the website just never got updated or that the transaction just wasn’t of a type that got reported.

So did everyone else,
but they never did, according to the official site at least.
And I can’t seem to remember reading about him being reinstated and optioned in the Times or the Trib.

While I'm glad they're finally dropping some dead weight.
I’m getting more and more frustrated that our best 25 aren’t taking the field.

Can't happen
Glover being DFA’d has no affect on the 25-man roster. And Rocco pretty much already has a spot on the 40-man, so…

Rocco a stretch at best
Why does everyone assume that 1) he’ll come back and stay healthy all the way and 2) that even if he is super healthy he’ll put up sick numbers?
The last time Rocco was an everyday player (so long ago I can barely remember), he wasn’t exactly a hammer in our lineup. He’ll barely cause a ripple. And that’s only if in the next few rehab starts we don’t hear about “another setback”. Why are people so obsessed with Rocco?
by Bobby Fenton on Jul 27, 2008 9:39 PM EDT 0 recs
Excellent point!
He is hitting 8% linedrives in the minors. He just isn’t hitting the ball with a lot of authority right now. If our plan to beef up our lineup is to add Rocco to the RF platoon, all we are doing is rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic. Boston adds Papi, New York adds Marte and Nady to their team, we have to do something because the offensive struggles continue to hold this team back. 2.7 runs a game over the last 3 weeks. If we had any decent hitting during that stretch, we would be 5+ games up on the rest of them right now.
I’ll be tuning in tomorrow now that I’m back at work and out of Vegas. I love the show but I can’t exactly tune in at 6am PST when I didn’t get to bed until 4am all week :)

We'll be adding Price
which is probably more pitching than the others will be adding, but other than that, I agree.
As for Rocco, I’m not sure I buy it entirely. My running theory is that if he hits well, they’‘ll keep him on the roster, and if he doesn’t (or if he gets hurt), they’ll turn to Ruggs, and stash Rocco back on the DL either way – he’s close enough to being injured that it would be hard for him to make a grievance.

I’m always reading the site but I never remembered if I had a login or not so I tried it the other day and it worked.
1010 does broadcast Yankee games. Part of me says I’m not a huge fan of it, but I find myself listening now when the Rays aren’t going simultaneously because I appreciate the comedy of John Sterling and because I want to see what the Yankees are doing.
During the day, however, 1010 has a full lineup of local talk shows (inclduing mine from 9-noon) all much more concerned with the Rays than anything else. Thanks to all of you guys who listen, and it’s good to be commenting on the board here, RJ. You’re welcome on the show anytime even though I know you’re not big into a lot of public stuff. Collette, you too.
