Kei Igawa & Esteban Loaiza

What is the possibility of the rays picking up one or even both of these players. kei igawa was released by the yankees and cleared waivers and i feel he might make an impact in the bullpen. esteban loaiza on the other hand could put some depth in the starting rotation at the bottom in place of ejax or sonny and has had success in the pass and also would give a veteran in the bullpen that has been in the playoffs and knows what it is all about. he could even be used as a long reliever. both could be help for the rays down the line for cheap without having to give up any big time prospects....they wouldnt give up anybody at all! what does everybody think?

Worse than what we have in-house, IMHO

I’d feel more comfortable with Niemann or Salas than Igawa or Loiaza. Loaiza might be okay if he wasn’t toast, but he is.

i would take a chance on igawa as a loogy instead of trevor miller

sign him for the minimum and just see how he does and allow igawa to try and turn in around and if dont work out by the time that david price is ready than just cut him easy as that

Rhodes would be a better LOOGY for y'all than Igawa.

And I’m actually being serious here. He’s been pretty darned effective this year, and he’s not signed through 2011. I’m hoping Rhodes goes to Milwaukee because the M’s return would probably be the highest, but he might be a good fit in Tampa.

On the plus side

Rhodes has the best Baseball Reference advertisement ever.

Igawa

throws everything up which has led to a lot of home runs. He also walks a lot of batters. While Miller has had success in the majors and is probably simply undergoing a slump right now, Igawa in his short career here has been awful in just about every way a pitcher can be awful.

They could be clubhouse attendants

Lord knows the clubhouse guys are overworked as it is. Some new blood might be just what the clubhouse guys need to get re-energized after their grueling first half/two-thirds of the season and keep their noses to the grindstone for the remainder of the season.

So, you guys are more than welcome to Igawa if he ends up being part of the Washburn deal.

We won’t even ask much for him. Say…Igawa and Rhodes for any one of Ruggiano, Jackson or Riggans? Or a low-mid level prospect? Seriously, we don’t mind.

FanShots are underrated.

Irrelevant discussion on Igawa anyway

He’s not freely available – can be (has been) optioned to minors with no refusal rights. Takes his salary off the lux tax calc. for the Yanks, so saves them 1.6 mm per annum.

If you really wanted him, I’m sure he’s available at low cost. But why would you want him? He’s been effective in AAA, but that clearly doesn’t guarantee anything.
