Then his regression
Should be towards higher numbers because I fully expect Beckett and his 8 BB no hitter to suck like a black hole.
I was trying to find
...that hat that made fun of the Angels name change where they had something like the LA angels of orange county of like their zip code or something like that, it had some 13 different words in it.
Me picking the Angels should explain how much faith I have in this teams Bawlfence right now.
AJ Burnett is an excellent pitcher
If you believe in things like BABIP, K/BB, etc., the FANTASTIC ratings that SaberToothedPie linked to earlier claim Burnett’s been the 7th most effective starter in the big leagues this year. 3.48 FIP.
sometimes you can learn a lot from hearing something you think is crazy.
and then again, sometimes it’s for-real crazy.

don't get me wrong...
they are my fav NFL team, but they used to be my fav team all sports. Jeff Garcia, Galloway, Hovan, etc. are lame.
We used to have likeable players...
that weren’t gay, weirdly obsessed with Favre, always injured/juicers, etc. I just don’t understand the shift from building through the draft to signing washed up free agent after washed up FA.
I also think I am tired of the parody in the NFL.
i dont care who plays for them
as long as they win. ppl put to much stock into the morality of lack there of of the coach. Dungy syndrome i guess

but they aren't winners
they lucked into the division championship after being terrible. they alternate b/w mediocre and bad. i wish they would just blow it up and get young.
in a terrible division
they weren’t good. did you see them winning any playoff games? were you surprised when they didn’t?
the saints weren't good
the panthers were awful. just because they had injuries doesn’t mean they weren’t bad.
they won’t make the playoffs this year.
whatever i don’t wanna argue about the bucs on a Rays message board.
The Panthers were 7-9 with there QB down...
The Saints were a lot of people’s pick for the SB pre season last year…I’m sorry, but you are sipping on Deumig’s haterade.
And what about this “old team” you brought up? Dont make me dominate you on Bucs knowledge…
Don't forget also that 12 teams make the playoffs
Its tough enough to make the playoffs, and harder to win when you get there. If your standards are “Win everything or you suck”, then everyone sucks except for the Giants.
yeah
they were one of 12 playoff teams. 12 of the 32 best teams in the league. that is great. what about the year before? when was the last time they won a playoff game?
So, winning a playoff game determines if the team had a good year?
The were division champs and lost to the eventual SB champ.
They had a lot of holes for a few years
The players you claim are “lame” are part of the reason they got to the playoffs. The team is much better now than it was for the last couple of years.
young defense?
Brooks, Barber, Buchanon, Hovan, whoever is gonna start opposite Adams, and June are all older.
The WRs are old, the RBs are old, the QBs are old, the TEs are old. So the O’line and half the defense is young.
Here we go....Domination
Haye and Adams on the DL….June and Ruud on LB core…Jackson, Piscatelli, Phillips, Talib and Buchanon in the secondary
Offense…Sears, Trueblood, Faine, Joseph, Penn, Alex Smith, Ben Troupe, Stovall, Clayton, Bryant, Caddy, Graham
A majority of the defense is young, and a couple vets. The entire Oline is young. A couple skill players are vets.
you named backups
they have been getting younger.
I consider “not young” guys that are on the back-end of their development curve. 28 and 29 is definitely not “young” in NFL terms.
The whole argument is pointless anyway
The age of our players is fine. Most NFL teams don’t stack their team with a bunch of 24 year olds because it fails miserably.
You are not good at this
3/4 of the secondary is under 30…2/3 of LB are 30 or younger…1/2 the Dline is 26 or younger…The entire Oline is under 27…all the TE’s are young…2 WR’s are old, 1 RB, and 1 QB are old.
What do you consider young in the NFL
because under 30 is certainly not young.
It is semantics though. I was talking about before. I like the players more now except a few.
there is no feature back
I don’t count Caddy because he is Rocco. If 29 is a young RB we have nothing more to discuss.
Ugh...you listen to Duemig too much
This is a younger team whether you like it or not
If it was up to me
They could have all retired players as long as they win. Teams of Veterans have done it before. Age really isn’t all that important to success if you ask me.
I don't listen to him
A. I live in DC
B. I hate him
I just stated that I didn’t like the way the team went after the SB. Then the pissing match started.
BA is one of the best in the league with the cap
The Steussie, Garner, et. signings were only a small % of the cap
Its not even OLD
Its just not young enough for him
If 29 is too old you have to dump tons of players on all the teams across the league. Its just not feasible to expect alot of your players to be 25. That would mean every draft choice you make is perfect, and all of them start immediately. Then you have to dump them and start over.
The three guys you named off are part of the core of the team
and the only thing lame is that we are likely watching the last season of the great 55
Blake
USF--Class of '09
His production is still fine
Hes always around the ball and is usually the top in the team in tackles, which is tough for an OLB. Only until last year did he relinquish the tackle title to Ruud.
Plus, its different for defensive players than it is for QBs.
but his entire game is based on his speed.
and he already has lost a step. however, one step down for brooks is still pretty fast compared to many nfler’s…but what about two steps?
Blake
USF--Class of '09
but his entire game is based on his speed.
I disagree. He can get to the ball quicker than a lot of faster people because of his knowledge and experience.
It was the same story with John Lynch. Everyone said he lost a step and became a liability. Yet he is still playing great football because a lot of his game is based on his instincts and his knowledge of the game.
It wasn't about Lynch's speed
it was about concerns about his neck injury, and the belief that his backup was ready to start
Blake

solid enough,
the rays are going to be left in the dust if we don’t use this opportunity to make a move.
i think not picking up Manny's option is the right move
he’s vastly overrated as a ballplayer these days. (see: defense)
but is it worth giving up what’s needed to get Bay, even if he is signed for next year, too? and then what do they do this year with Manny? i doubt anyone will give them anything for him… although maybe i should stop counting out brian sabean.
as a DH, maybe
if you consider fielding, he’s been as valuable as Xavier Nady this year. not worth $20MM
Outlier
Heard of it?
I wouldn’t want him in the field either but I’ll take 300/400/500 any day. I don’t care how much it costs.
what does Nady's outlier season have to do with Manny?
Manny’s a very good hitter, but not legendary like he used to be. is it so hard to believe that he’s such a butcher in left that much of his value is taken away?
why not put Manny at short? imagine how cool 300/400/500 would be there!
evidently i did miss that. sorry
he’s not much more valuable at DH, maybe one win (-5 LF penalty, -20 fielding in LF compared to -20 runs DH penalty)
But our DH right now
is below replacement level. It would be a huge upgrade to go from a .700 OPS DH to a .900 OPS DH.
I mean Carl who hits the ball hard, then runs fast.

be objective. in a 1 run game, that should have been a single, and upton moved him to 3rd, with one out, might as well have given him the run. that was a poor decision, plain and simple.
it was a tough play, a very low % play, which is why in a 1 run game, with 1 out, you hold him to a single.
not that it would have matterd, b/c upton just took a horrible route to another ball.

The problem is
The best 25 means more pitchers coming up. Right now we really don’t need David Price. What’s he going to do, lose 2-1 instead of 3-1? We need some freaking bats.
Both corner outfield spots need to be upgraded, and we could sure use a 1st Baseman with plenty of OPS too.
