Teams that have spoken with the Cubs -- who, incredibly, now have too MUCH pitching -- report they're calling around to American League clubs to gauge interest in left-hander Scott Eyre. Among teams expected to be in the mix: the Rays, Red Sox and Tigers.

How are we "in the mix" in every trade rumor?
Is is just because we are in contention that people assume we will be wheeling and dealing? Or is the front office really trying to get involved in every possible transaction?
