David Price update
After tonight's game (8 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7K), Price sits at 5-0 in AA with a 2.20 ERA and 38/12 K:BB ratio in 45 IP. Although he's still not overwhelming in the strikeouts, he's been very effective despite it and is sporting a very good GB/FB ratio (1.48 to be exact). His one bugabu lately has been the HR ball, as the only two hits he gave up tonight were HRs to a powerful Huntsville lineup, and he's now given up six in his last three outings after going 60.2 IP without allowing one all year. Mainly, it seems like the few mistakes he makes get hit hard, and even more interesting is that four of the six HRs he's given up have been to left handed hitters.
That said, all indications are he's probably ready for AAA if they want to try and push him, or they could keep him in Montgomery until they think he's ready to make the jump to Tampa. I think there'll be some news one way or another after tonight's outing.

jump to Tampa
They’re going to move him to the Yankees single A team? That’s an odd move. I hope he makes it to St. Pete someday…
Sorry, no offense. That is just a pet peeve on mine.

just curious
are you calling me a douchebag? It was a little joke. let’s not make it personal. If you are calling him a douchbag, then that’s a bit much for a simple mistake.

I am calling you one because between here and bucschat there are way too many people
that get uptight over the whole Tampa, Tampa Bay, St. Pete thing. Nobody cares that the national media can’t get it right, because it is not important. If it was some sort of inside joke then I apologize, but I mean c’mon let it go.

calm down…he meant send him to st. pete….but deff. after those numbers im hoping they give me two or three starts at triple A before making the call…triple A and the majors can somewhat be considered alike….so i think he needs those few starts at triple A

I like how you say St. pete is a hell hole, while Tampa's crime rates are National Top Ten

Dont You Ever talk bad about St Petersburg
At least there is some sort of entertainment downtown St Pete. Tampa turns into a ghost town, then again you could always go to Ybor, that hell hole

FWIW
Huntsville probably has the best hitting lineup in the minors.

FWIW
He’s given up an even split of HRs to lefties and righties. I originally said he’d given up four to lefties, but it’s actually three.
Also, can we please try and stay on topic? Thanks. No need for all the name calling.

In all seriousness
I rec’d SKaz’s comment because I have grown very tired of this pissing contest, and wish people on BOTH SIDES of the bay would get over themselves.

I think he is ready for AAA
but I would REALLY like to see the HR rate come down. It has been extremely high the last few games.

If the plan is for him to end up in the pen this year
Would it only be 1 or 2 starts in AAA? If so, I think thats ok.

Realistic expectations.
We are talking about a guy in his first professional season, putting up great-but-not-dominant numbers in double-A. Let’s see him start to dominate and/or maintain this success for a longer period of time before we insert him into the bullpen.
I’m not saying he can’t/won’t, but I think we need to temper our expectations somewhat.

He would be an upgrade as a reliever right now IMO
In ST, he showcased a mid to high 90’s fastball coming out of the pen. That along with his plus slider would do wonders for this pen. He would be a great bridge to Howell, Balfour, etc.

Without looking at any numbers, but
with Howell and Price we would have two dominant southpaws and Wheels/Percy would give us two shut down righties. I think the only thing we would think about bringing in would be a situational guy such as a Roogy or ground ball guy that could come in to induce a double play. I would think other than that our pen is doing pretty well.

i would agree,
but as has been obvious to everyone (i.e. trevor miller), maddon doesn’t believe in situational pitching, if he did we would NEVER have to see miller for more then one batter in a row, two if they’re both lefty.

I think at this point you can amend that to
we would never see Trever Miller in a winnable game, but yeah I agree.

Normally that would be the case
But with his stuff, I’m all in favor of letting him figure it out in the majors, at least for the rest of this year. If he still needs major work after a couple weeks, then send him to Durham, or leave him off the playoff roster (if there is one).
