understatement if they resign him
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
I'd say it's fair
Cotchman is decent offensively and is under team control until 2012. The pitcher they gave up is decent at best, and they’re going to get 2 picks if they don’t resign Teix which makes it a pretty good deal if they let him go. The Angels have the ability to sign him though, so to me it looks like they gave all of that up to get early negotating rights, and in that instance, it’s an average deal.
Kotchman is CC without Outfield and SB.
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
HE WALKS LESS THAN CC.
REDFLAG REDFLAG REDFLAG
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
but he makes contact nealy every atbat---cc would be hitting well over .300 if he made contact every atbat with his speed
9 = 8
But Kotchman doesn't have CC's speed. And he gets on base at a .327 clip. No thanks.
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
Fuck
Maddon said Baldelli wouldn’t need to move up first to Triple-A Durham. “He would come here whenever that moment is” and get readjusted to major-league pitching, Maddon said.
You know what the worst part of this statement is?
I remember a certain someone declaring openly and outright that Baldelli would be up in the Bigs before Price, and how everyone and their mother told him that he was wrong, and an idiot.
And now he’s also going to be something else: right.
It wasn't an outrageous statement.
I cannot believe we’re going to risk Baldelli’s sub-10 minor league LD% at the major league level. That’s amazing…
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 29, 2008 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions
At the time the statement was made
Baldelli was in the middle of his first rehab assignment, and was not doing well at all when the statement was made.
Which is why it wasn't an outrageous statement to say Price would be up before Rocco.
Perhaps the better question is who will contribute first: Rocco or Price?
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 29, 2008 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh
No, I thought you were saying that it wasn’t an outrageous statement for Sternfan to say that Rocco would be up before Price.
No, I agree with you. I was with the masses. If Rocco gets promoted before Price, it is solely a PR/inspiration move.
But we'll score like 5 runs in the 6th, so its cool
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
according to that site, Fernando Perez has been hitting line drives like they are going out of style.

Well, bunting for basehits
If done properly, certainly can. It’s the sacrifice bunt that im not keen on
by GomesSweetGomes on Jul 29, 2008 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree with this statement.
Carl Crawford should be able to bunt for a hit. I agree with the statistical analysis people that sac bunting is detrimental, however there is use for it in late innings, i believe.

You're mistaking saber teams are purely OBP teams
Teams that use sabermetric analysis heavily are primarily the A’s, Padres, Indians, Rays, Red Sox, ect.

Riccardi’s first order of business was firing all the scouts and bringing in his own guys, with little knowledge of the game, but guys that were serious number and stat analysts. The results haven’t been pretty.

WITH Law they were very much into stats, but as Law went so did the statistical dependence. I’m not sure how that’s revisionist history whatsoever.
Also check out Oakland’s defensive rank, I believe it’s first, which is what started this whole “debate”.

I understand Sabermetrics has moved past OBP
The new market inneficiency is finding players who can’t hit, and trading your most valuable players for them.

The upside could be huge if he pans out. If you only give up a Zobrist or a Brignac for him then you have really lost or gained nothing. You make Francoeur finish out the year at AAA and re-evaluate in Spring Training. If it works you could end up with a permanent RF.

Replay is showing that it was a regular HR
The Umps blew the call, but the Jays also showed no hustle and f-d up any chance to keep that run off the board.
It cut back in ... That is what a cutter does
it was close enough to foul off
by PewterPirate55 on Jul 29, 2008 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions
It doesn't matter
He’s taking way too many 2 strike pitches, balls or strikes. If you’ve got 2 strikes in the count and you don’t have three balls, you need to be fouling off anything that’s kinda close.
Whether that ball from Hinske was gone or an inside-the-parker...

Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.
that stat someone posted the other day about
rays only scoring 8 times out of 50 or so when runner on 2b and no outs was amazingly aweful.
If Maddon is willing to blow a game to prove a point to Coco Crisp
Then he should be willing to blow a game by replacing positional players who fail to drive in runs when men are in scoring position with other players. This team needs a punch squarely in the balls, and they need it very soon.
Example
Upton struck out looking with 1 out and a man on 3rd. Gabe Gross comes out to play the rest of the game.
You mean the AL
But that’s the point. The Rays would lose, but hopefully being a complete asshole might wake them up.
And you play pitchers too.
The point is that if they don’t start producing, that extreme things will happen.
he is a TERRIBLE bunter in The Show
seriously, i have to hack away like the real Crawford cuz guy can not bunt
He bunts better off of lefties up the third base line.
Swing away against righty pitching with him.

Ball hit a black tarp(?) behind Rios and bounced back into play..
The Jays OF thought it was out so stopped playing. Umps didn’t call anything so Hinske just kept running. Later replay showed it was out.
how are we so bad with the stick?
ive never seen a worse situational hitting team in my life.
He was ROTY as a Rookie
That has to be the most redundant statement I have ever heard a broadcaster make.
halladay isn't lookin so hot
but we still can’t get a hit
yeah i knew that
But it’s more fun to make things sound like they’ve been going on forever.
Why don't they call up Ruggs, and get rid of Floyd, Gomes AND Gross
And Sign Bonds and trade for Griffey?
we need to score more than 1 run to win this game
i’m afraid odds are we won’t be able to
Odds are we will score 2

Manny will end up as a DH somewhere. I wouldnt mind having the Righty bat as our DH. But it is Manny, no way our Front office pays $20 mil for him, He will not end up with the Marlins because he can not play LF as it is. just a hunch, maybe he needs contacts or lasik or something….
when he swings he is late much more often than what he should be and well frankly i think his “knowledge of the strike zone” is more of a product of not being ready/able to swing the bat (maybe vision?)

to massive suckitude?
it may or may not be his eyes. maybe its shoulder. maybe its his mechanics. all i know is when he decide to pull the trigger he is not doing very well. if the mean is the skill of a rookie league player then we have some problems
im not doubting his strike zone knowledge, or his defense
im talking about his ability to swing the bat and make good solid contact with a baseball.
No, I was referencing his shoulder.
Unless it was his non-throwing shoulder, I don’t recall.

you have to see the ball
isn’t that the first thing they teach you in like tee ball?

Not swinging. Unless he’s blind and doesn’t even see a ball coming in his general direction.
i was just hypothesizing
bad eyesight usually means you swing a lot less compared to swinging at bad pitches. it also means you swing a lot later than usual. i actually went through the same thing in high school ball. quite a few major leaguers have said the same thing.
now is this what is going on with bj? who knows? it could be an injury or mechanics also.
it also important to note he typically hits far back in the zone to begin with.
bj is still playing great when compared to other players. but that doesn’t mean he is 100% or if he is capable of playing at his true ability. my guess is he can play better.

its not bad
but that was my point about obp and his eyes. he swung at two pitches in these two plate appearances and he fouled both off. you can make the point he isn’t swinging because he has great plate coverage or on the flip side you can say he isn’t swinging (or making contact) because he can’t see the ball.
guess i need to go drink
no working out for me tonight
one day..one day
itll happen considering getting horribly drunk is a regularly occurrence for me
John Lackey was a sshould-have been Ray, so I'm glad he's doing this.

We picked CC 10-15 picks before him.

TAMPA BAY RAYS: 2008 CITRUS SERIES CHAMPIONS
Good job guys
Why don’t you talk about how many runs Garza’s given up. Maybe we can blow that one too.
Nope cause God
is on our side …
Oh crap is that a double jinx????
Wouldnt it be sad if the Angels lost? Imagine if Lackey took a no no into the 9th and they lose after 6 runs up
are you trying to make fun of me for being 12?
welcome to 1999 style internet trolling. Did you lose your way when you were looking for the IGN boards?
did magrane really have to mention that garza has never had a cg shutout?
haven’t we had enough jixes?
i know batting average is the devil here
but do you know our team leader in ba (that has the minumum # at bats) is Longoria at .277?
Thank god getting on base if the only thing that matters
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
its not the "only" thing but either way it is a pretty bad sign if your ba leader is at .277
Delmon would have the highest ba on our team by far. Just pointing it out.
and we have a chokehold on his til his early 30's
he would not have signed that deal if it was offered now
I know, i was just pointing out the batting average leader on our team is at .277
not good…could be why we stink with risp
That's true
But Halliday is a beast and the managed to get one through on him tonight. I’m not saying they’ve broken it, but a team can be scalding hot offensively coming in and do worse against Halliday.
while true
in the grand scheme of things the only run we scored against the doc was a home run. now im not complaining about that, but the risp problem still exists. today it wasn’t nearly as bad since most of our opportunities were with 2 outs. my main beef is the risp scoring ability with less than 2 outs.
1st inning-cc was on 3rd with 2 outs and longo got out
3rd inning-bartlett doubled with no outs, aki grounded out, bj struck out, cc grounded out
6th inning-upton got to second with 2 outs and longo got out
8th inning was the longo triple
in the 8th pena got out with longo on 2nd
so overall we went 1-7 with RISP
0-2 with RISP and less than 2 outs
0-1 with a man on third and less than 2 outs
I had people telling me to shut up after the 5th and 6th inning and I didn't Jinx it
Just like there was no curse of the Babe in Boston… Jinx’s and curses dont exist. Turns out Boston just sucked for 86 years.
WTF
Former major league reliever Julio Mateo was arrested on suspicion of forgery last weekend after police discovered counterfeit $100 bills in his hotel room.
Mateo hasn’t pitched in the majors since being arested on spousal abuse charges and skipping out on the Mariners last May. He was pitching for San Francisco’s Triple-A team this year. According to the Albuquerque police reports, Mateo is accused of using a counterfeit $100 bill to pay a $26.80 cab fare for himself and Fresno teammate Victor Santos. After investigating officers received permission from Mateo to enter his hotel room, an officer saw “two stacks [of] money with $100 bills on top of the stacks,” a police report said.
