Heath Phillips is Jeremy Cummings replacement
Yes, the same Phillips who hit Longoria in spring training. Whether that was intentional or not is up for debate.

No real need for Price to go to AAA, IMO.

Of Course there's no need
Our rotation is fine on the ML level, and our AAA rotation has Niemann, Davis and Talbot. But Price is dominating AA. So would you rather have Price or Phillips in the rotation in AAA?

The difference between AA and AAA hitters is fairly small
Plenty of pitchers (including Kazmir) have skipped AAA.
Right now, I’d rather let him stick with Montgomery and be comfortable until we need him than jerk him out of AA for a couple of AAA spot starts.

Not buying that
Everyone in AAA is either waiting to be moved up, or is a AAAA player. The talent level is closer to the MLB level than AA.

The biggest difference between a AAAA scrub and a AA hitter?
Age.
Explain to me the staggering difference between Erold Andrus and Darnell McDonald and we’ll talk.

IMO the biggest difference between a AAAA guy and a AA prospect
is patience and decision making. A lot of times pitches you can get a 20 yr old to chase a 30 yr old vet could lay off. AAA hitters also tend to take more pitches and make you worker harder to last longer in games. There is a reason guys like Chris Mason dominate AA and struggle in AAA.

I agree, but that has little bearing on guys like Price.
Also, age and patience go hand in hand in most cases, so…

why would they sign anyone anyway? is there really no one in AA that deserves a bump up?
like James Houser for example? 2nd year in AA, doing exceptional, did pretty well last year too. why not move him up?

He's said he hopes to be with a team this season still.

Even if he's not
I say he has a strong showing early on and is up in the pen sooner that later.
but, then again, I thought Jeff Ridgway was going to be a fine loogy. So…

Last report on Houser's velocity
was that he was sitting at 86. If it doesn’t return after the surgery, he’s bordering on a non-prospect.
