Fine, One More Sabathia Thread
Heard this: Right now, the Red Sox and Rays essentially have no interest in completing a trade for C.C. Sabathia, because of other concerns. For Boston there may be a developing need for a bat, depending on how David Ortiz recovers from his wrist injury, as well as bullpen help, and for Tampa Bay the priority is going to be a right-handed hitting outfielder -- someone like the Pirates' Xavier Nady -- and perhaps some bullpen help.
Buster Olney via MMLBTr. So, unlike the Dan Boyle rumors, these can finally be placed underground, correct? I just wish Justin Ruggiano would get his shot, and if the team does get Nady or someone of his ilk what happens with Gomes?

My two cents
Dan Boyle isn’t going anywhere…best defenseman in the Southeast
CC is a pipe dream…Rays can’t afford it…and I don’t think any team is gonna get there moneys worth out of his contract
Xavier Nady is nice…but can’t we get a big right handed bat that is a little younger or a little more proven; Adam Dunn or Jason Bay sounds better. Matt Holliday sounds best…but a reach.
Something else that is unreachable but fun to imagine…..ALBERT PUJOLS in a RAYS JERSEY!

I hope they don't give up too much for Nady
As I’m having a hard time seeing him as an offensive improvement.
Career OBP:
Gomes: .332
Nady: .335
Career SLG:
Gomes: .460
Nady: .455
Their overall offensive production is a wash. The only differences I see are that Gomes strikes out and walks more, while Nady puts more balls in play, and walks less. Plus looking at his splits from 07 really makes me doubt whether he’s going to continue hitting the ball like he has in the first half.

His added value in my mind really comes down to his fielding, which would enable more flexibility in the DH role. But I’m not sure if that’s worth more than a B list prospect.

Dunn bats lefty
and Bay would be a true upgrade with an OPS+ of 130 compared to Gomes and Nady at 108. Not to mention he is under control through ‘09.

But the trends are divergent
Gomes best numbers are farther in his career past, Nady’s bests are recent. So in that sense their production isn’t a wash at all. Plus Nady is playing in a park that suppresses RH power. But this isn’t a required deal, and there’s probably a market for Mady, so I don’t see it happening.
And I never saw the CC deal as realistic. Where’s the big need on the Rays behalf, again given greater needs in larger markets and the current staff’s positive performance plus solid to superior prospects in the top 2 levels of the minors. This is just media speculation based on the Rays first entry to the world of contention and that they have prospects the Indians would surely covet. A paper match.
But the Rays have the scratch for this deal if they chose. Enough of this pleading poor crap – increased attendance and the concomitant likely increase in merchandise sales means a revenue explosion, and revenue sharing along with general fund revenue had the Rays awash in cash already. Please people, stop with the blinders on the Rays profitability. The org will try to plead poverty to get the best possible financing on a new stadium, and as a private eneterprise thay don’t have to reveal anything, but the money is there for whatever the Rays want to do.

why we dont need Sabathia
1) Hes fat and personally i think hes over rated 2) he will cost us way to much of our farm system for a player that we wont be able sign for an extension 3) Theres only one CC and his last name is Crawford
