Sources told Baseball Prospectus’ John Perrotto that Manny Ramirez is on the verge of being traded to the Marlins for three players.
Perrotto says one of them is top outfield prospect Mike Stanton. Baseball Prospectus isn’t the best source for breaking news, but Perrotto is a veteran reporter for the Beaver County Times and is pretty trustworthy. Still, it’s worth noting that Ramirez is still in the game for the Red Sox.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark reports that trade talks between the Pirates and the Rays regarding Jason Bay have slowed.
Bay was included in Pittsburgh’s lineup tonight, while Reid Brignac started for Triple-A Durham. Stark says one reason talks may have slowed is because the Pirates suspect the Red Sox will go after Bay is a Manny Ramirez trade gets done or maybe even as part of a Ramirez deal. Jeremy Hermida would be a nice return for Bay.

manny is the best RH hitter in baseball. I would rather pitch to any other RH bat in the league than a healthy Man Ram. Having Manny/Ortiz b2b has been the most important thing for Boston the past 5 years

Red Sox now want Stanton, Hermida AND Ryan Tucker

Marlins aren’t too dumb, if the price is that high, Marlins wont get Manny and the Sox will have no room for Bay making us the clear front runners.

I’m hearing that a multi-team deal involving Jason Bay and the Florida Marlins is in the "final stages." This could involve the previously in-place dealings involving Manny Ramirez as reported by our own John Perrotto. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com thinks that Bay could end up in Boston, Jeremy Hermida in Pittsburgh, and prospects flying every which way. My sources agree, though I will update as details become clearer.

everyone is happy and gets what they want/need. Power aside, I would much rather see Dunn go to Boston than our man Bay and it is really starting to look like Manny is leaving Boston this time.

The Rockies informed all the teams interested in reliever Brian Fuentes on Wednesday afternoon that they would decide late Wednesday night whether to put Fuentes on the market. All those teams also were told exactly what it would take from their club to get Fuentes if the Rockies opt to trade him. At least three of those clubs - the Mets, Phillies and Rays - have told the Rockies that, because of the price, they’re out of the Fuentes derby.

8:52 p.m.: I am aware of the three-team scenario that has been floated in some circles - some more definitively than others - that would get Bay involved in a three-way trade between Boston and Florida that would send Bay to the Red Sox, Manny Ramirez to the Marlins and Jeremy Hermida to the Pirates. But I just spoke with a source in Miami who threw water over the whole thing, even the more commonly reported Ramirez-Florida straight-up suggestions. Waiting for independent confirmation either way.

No, it wouldn’t make the Sox better, but they wouldn’t really be worse either. The Rays on the other hand, would have no opportunity to get better because after Bay, there doesn’t seem to be anything left on the market in the way of effective RH outfield bats.

I don't think they have a choice

If he’s healthy and says he’s ready to go, they either need to play him or DFA him. Earlier in the year I’m sure he would have been more open to the idea of an extended rehab, but he has to be thinking this is his last, if not next to last shot to prove himself able to contribute for a MLB team.

It may not even take Mason. LA eats the contract and worst case scenario we either have a gold glove CF and one of the best defensive outfields in baseball or we cut him in 3 weeks and you never know maybe he can thrive in the smaller market without a lot of pressure.

Manny will not go to an NL team

How would Boston justify his defensive value. The NL GM would say if you think he is good defensively then why trade him? He can not DH in the NL and they dont want to trade him to an AL team for fear it will come back to haunt them. This is a bunch of bunk. Manny isnt going anywhere unless it is the waiver wire. If that is the case Theo Epstein is dumber than I thought he was.

Its a big Fuck You to the fans and the media in Boston. That is Manny being Manny so to speak until it gets on their nerves then Boston sees it like the rest of the country. Manny being Manny is really just code for Manny being an asshole. Manny can barely play the easy left field in Fenway. Imagine that scaled up to the HUGE field in Miami. Not gonna happen.

Let me rephrase … I guess that would make the Marlins FO dumber than I thought they were. None of this talk would be happening if Ortiz was still on the DL. Manny would be the DH up there now all the sudden they realized how shitty of a fielder he is and that they are overpaying for two DH’s and they should save money, now they are trying to dupe the Marlins into taking Manny. If I can see it why cant anyone else?

Mike Jacobs was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Mets after six innings.
It wasn’t a situation in which he’d normally be pulled, so there was either an undislosed injury or a trade. Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus said he’s heard talk of Jacobs being part of a deal for the Giants’ Bengie Molina.

John Perotto reports that discussions on a three-way trade between the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates could also include Jack Wilson and John Grabow.
Manny Ramirez to Florida, Jason Bay to Boston and Jeremy Hermida to Pittsburgh would be the foundation of the deal. Perotto, who said earlier this evening that a deal sending Manny to Florida was on the verge of getting done, doesn’t follow through with that here. However, he says that talks are alive and that multiple variations have been discussed. In one version, the Red Sox would get Wilson from the Pirates and give up Jed Lowrie. In another, the Marlins would acquire Grabow in exchange for pitching prospect Ryan Tucker.

The Commissioner has to sign off on any deal involving cash considerations of more than a million dollars and there was clearly going to be cash involved in any deal. There’s also some formality about Manny Ramirez waiving his 10-5 rights and no trade clause and I’ll admit not understanding the technicalities.

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
