Boston gets Jason Bay!

Yikes. This really sucks for the rest of the AL East.

Currently being reported on Baseball Prospectus and ESPN.com...

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (Red Sox), and cash (likely covering Ramirez’s remaining salary)

Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two Marlins, one Red Sox)

Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

This trade has not yet been made final, but I have to say that a gain of Bay vs a loss of Manny is a big win for Boston. I'd much rather have Bay at this stage of their careers. My opinion of the trade may change once we find out who the Sox are losing for prospects.

They haven't even talked to Manny yet. And he can veto a trade. So can the commish. Manny makes little sense for the Marlins. etc.

How hard would it be for Huntington to call up Carroll and tell him this?

Boston wouldn’t deny it if it makes the Rays offer more for Bay. Has anyone from FLA or BOS commented on this.

New to the board

Guys, I’m new to this board but a big Rays fan. I’ve been on the Pitts.Gazette blog all day messing with those guys. Actually, they’re not too bad and several are Rays fans… This guy Carroll though is wishy-washy … I would love to have Bay but the back up plan is also encouraging in moving forward. Most of the Pirates including the guy who posts thinks that Huntington is driving up the price. Do the Reds have any lefties we might acquire in that deal?

Hermida

Why would the Marlins part with Hermida , I’m stunned by that. Getting rid of 2 hitters in Jacobs and Hermida? Am I the only one feeling bad for the Marlins? If it works out, Ramirez and Molina , are they really better than Jacobs and Hermida?

If this is true

I sooooooo called this. Manny is a jackass, but he has a GREAT agent in Boras. Sometihng tells me he just got on the phone and explained to Manny that 1. Fenway is a hitters park, and 2. GM’s pay more for guys who they just say on the television last October.
