With the 4 p.m. ET Trade Deadline past, a baseball source in Tampa Bay confirmed that no deal was struck between the Rays and Pirates to send Jason Bay to Tampa Bay in exchange for prospects.
While there remains the possibility that another team could have snuck in an offer before 4 p.m., it appears right now that Bay is staying in Pittsburgh. No other substantial offers were known to be on the table.

Second SIDE or second DISC?
Because side 2 has “The Dirty Jobs” and “Is It In My Head,” which are about as weak as the album gets. Disc 2, however, is pretty freakin’ flawless, what with “5.15,” “Drowned,” “Doctor Jimmy,” “Bell Boy,” “Love Reign O’er Me,” and MOST ESPECIALLY OF ALL “The Rock,” which sums up every beautiful thing ever about Pete Townshend’s melodic genius and the band’s awesomeness as a performing ensemble.

6.) it all gets mixed up here, but maybe The Who By Numbers is better than My Generation or Who Are You.
7.) A Quick One sucks except for “Boris The Spider” and “So Sad About Us.” The title track would only become great in live performance, and it’s lame on the album.

I'm also a musician, but my instruments are (in order of quality) vocal, piano, and then guitar
So I have trouble identifying in that sense with The Who (in the “I want to play what these dudes are playing” way), with the exception of Townshend’s voice, which I adore in all its reedy sincerity. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is a much closer match for me, since my voice is a dead ringer for his and he’s also a rhythm guitar/piano guy whose parts I can all play easily.

onah Keri: (3:20 PM ET ) Well a lot of people seem to be saying it (tough to surf around and answer questions at once).
Anyway, if it’s true, way to go Rays. Excellent move, didn’t give up any of the truly elite prospects, but still traded from depth and got the big bat they needed, one they can keep next year too.
No shame for the Pirates either. Brignac has come a long way with the glove during his minor league career. I think he needs another year of seasoning on the farm. But he could be a solid contributor from 2010-2015. Niemann projects as a capable #4-5 type for the next six years, the first three coming very cheap, of course.

At best their #5 prospect in Brignac(may be a spot or 2 lower) and Niemann, who was in the 7-9 range…and they get one of the better hitters in baseball for next year as well…along with 2 draft picks if they dont resign him.

3:28 p.m. Will Carrol and Kevin Goldstein are reporting the Pirates have acquired Shortstop Reid Brignac and right-hander Jeff Niemann. Brignac and Niemann were on the table prior to the Pirates breaking off talks with the Rays to pursue the Boston/Florida deal. Still no confirmation but it appears to be almost a done. Late word was the Pirates were still targeting Wade Davis or Jeremy Hellickson to be included into the deal

A source in Pittsburgh has corroborated an earlier MLB.com report that Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is going to be traded to the Rays before 4 p.m. ET this afternoon. Deals have to be close to final, but if the specifics aren’t worked out (and aren’t really official) faxes can get “lost” and so forth. It’s not at all uncommon.

Update, 3:45 Now mlb.com is backing off, saying there are “conflicting reports” and that either Niemann or Brignac might not be in the deal. Which is pretty much where we were an hour ago.

Niemann still throws 92-94 touching 98 with a dirty hammer curve. And Brignac, for all the bad reports about his fielding, is now the best fielding SS in the minors. He’s also got a really big ceiling with the bat. Remember he’s 22 in AAA. He can and will hit. This is the best deal the Pirates are going to get and they will be the Pirates #3/4 prospects behind Alvarez and McCutchen.

Can you blame me for wanting more? Being a Pirates fan is dismal. If we trade Wilson then maybe this isn’t so bad.
I’d like to see Niemann be our new closer though. I like that part. Its Brignac I’m not so sold on.

But your pitching is so bad, you don’t have that luxury. He’s your #3 starter right now. Briganc is at worst a league average SS. When league average is a prospects floor, that’s a good thing. He’ll be fine. He needs some more time in AAA. Probably half a season next year, but he’s going to be very solid.
