Wow, starting for the debut
Nicely played.
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.
I honestly thought this would be the game Price would debut for the Rays at the start of the season.
Now I think it will be Sept. 2nd against the Sox.

I haven't been the biggest Brignac guy
But I’m not shutting the door on the idea of him taking over this season.
Bartlett's defense has been invaluable this season
Brignac better be at his best in the field.

If Brignac is good in the field
And has a better bat, it might be worth the gamble.

I've been very happy with Barlett.
He and Longoria have been huge all year.
www.citadel-insurance.com
He wont be. His defense is shotty. He has been better over the last few months up in Durham.

Can someone give me a quick rundown of Brignac's skills/tools?
I’m still almost 0 familiar with the Rays minor league organizations.
His best tool is his power.
Apparently he doesn’t like to walk much.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 4, 2008 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I was thinking Delmon, but he has no power.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 4, 2008 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions
PECOTA is really high on his glove.
It projects him as a 3-win defensive player and a 1-win offensive player, not bad. And good enough to be about league average. Let’s see how he does…
His best tool is his glove
He is a gap to gap hitter who hits everything hard. He is very similar to Longoria offensively but with slightly less power. He has a smooth swing, his down fall is that he will chase pitches outside of the zone.

Reid and me aren’t going to get along, are we?

At least I have Ruggiano, Talbot, and Sonnanstine to make me happy tonight.
Oh wait.

Talbot: Dan Johnson's soul mate.
No, he is that guy, the Dr. in Field of Dreams. Who got called up, but never played. Poor guy. He will be back up in Sept.

At this point
I’m just waiting for Ruggiano to get traded. When he goes bonkers elsewhere at least we’ll have Gomes’ antics.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 4, 2008 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't see Ruggiano going bonkers.
I did see how he got thrown out in last night’s game. Ruggiano I feel will be a solid player. He should be our everyday RFer. But NO!

I think it's just to try and catch lightning in the bottle.
He might get dealt still, but he’s probably a better option than Zobrist.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 4, 2008 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions
We'l see if Brignac has a good series vs. the Royals he will get a shot against the Yankees.
But, if not, I see him sitting for the Yankees two-gamer. But maybe another shot against the Tribe

im so excited
I know he hasn’t been killing the ball like he used to but I couldn’t wait for the day Brignac made his Rays debut, it’s here!
Its been highly debated.
And maybe we’ll all find out for sure tonight, but I remember reading somewhere that a guy sat in front of his parents at a game this year and said they pronounced it Brin-yak…
So…

Coulda been him
It was definitely someone on the RaysBB message board, so Tocco sounds plausible.
by Vin on Jul 4, 2008 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Personally,
I would have liked a Yankee sweep. Would have given us that much more of a lead over the Sox. Now it looks like a split is a best case scenario.
by Vin on Jul 4, 2008 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions
i don't think wild card is any different than winning the division....so i'd like to see a boston sweep and perhaps put the yanks out of their misery
9 = 8
The yanks are 5 out of the wildcard race
and behind three teams. So New York losing isn’t nearly as helpful to the Rays as Boston losing would be.
by Vin on Jul 4, 2008 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Also isn't this a bit odd
Longoria and Brignac are on a first place Rays team and it’s 2008, not 2010.
Given out rcord, its also amazing
that we’ll more than likely see the ML debut of 3 of our top 10 prospects this year.

CAJUN SENSATION
it just looks better than Cajun Sensajun…
It makes the butterflies in my stomach dance a pretty dance – and David Price is coming soon TOO!!!
I’m off to the local pub to tune in, harass the Red Sox lovin’ waitress and irritate the locals with shrieks of giddy joy!!!
If you're not having fun, what are you having? There's already WAAAY too many serious moments in life.
I'm sure he threw some accent on it
and I swear cajun is one of the hardest accents to imitate.
So i imagine “BRIN” and “BREEN” will both be acceptable.

I agree about it being in between
I’ve had both him and Josh Labandiera pronounce their names to me and I still can’t get either right 1/2 the time.
I demand to know the difference between
“yac” “yak” and “yack”
It must be in that media guide somewheres.

scouting report on Bannister
“has a good idea about pitching”
I dunno, maybe it’s me but that doesn’t sound like the best thing to say about a pitcher.
How many guys stick around
to see if the camera guy is ok?
I thought it was classy.
by Vin on Jul 4, 2008 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions
I hope he is here for the long haul
He is just as good if not better defensively and cant be worse offensively
Ive been preaching it for awhile
just wait until we get to face teams under .500. we will really get to see this team get going.
Everyone complains about the pitching but when you are facing only good teams naturally you are going to struggle. Just look what we did against Pittsburgh and Florida.
Delmon will do great his contract year
otherwise he will be the Adrian Beltre type. Our man Longo aint like that
Adrian Beltre is one of the top 3B in the league.
He plays in a park that hinders right handed hitters.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 4, 2008 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions
he sucked in LA til his contract year
and hes incredibly average in Seattle. Maybe he will be great next year when its time for a new contract.
I just got excited there
and it wasn’t a hard play. God I hope he rips the stuffing off the ball so we keep him around.
Is it in Dave Martinez contract that he has to be within 2 feet of Maddon
every time they show him on TV
I think we should trade for Grienke before tomorrows game.
I don’t feel like facing him
In all seriousness, they made him and Butler available and I don’t know why the fuck
That's weird.
My Tivo had apparently rewound or something because sure enough I was a few pitches behind.
how many pitches has Bannister thrown?
Not that I really wanna chase him anyway but it seems like a lot
And I would enjoy having sex with Brignac’s sister
Cajun God of
Napalm!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
There's only one way to prove it.

The Royals are a weak offensive team.
We should probably take each game, depending on how Sonnanstine does.
Sonnanstine?
The guys with 7 starts in a row in which he gave up 3 ER or less?
by Vin on Jul 4, 2008 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I hope Shields and Garza
make the Royals look so stupid. Not that EJ is making them look that smart so far.
I think this qualifies as a trend

So the Mariners won 4-1 over the Tigers.
And I really don’t even care. My god this season has been numbing. My two favorite teams are pure shit (and now the M’s are the better of the two), so only the success of the Rays keeps me going day to day.

Because he was pitching like shit.
His front shoulder was flying way open. There was no way he was finding the strike zone.

I've only ever seen a manager do that once before.
When Frank Robinson (managing the Nats) pwned a reliever in the middle of a count. Apparently it’s a grave insult.

For you Rays fans more familiar with CC, when will you consider him "back"?
He seems to have been on something of a tear lately, though not with much power.

He's never been a power threat
He’s been more patient at the plate, so that’s good. He needs to become more aggressive on the base paths, though.

As long as people keep throwing him first or 2nd pitch strikes yes
if not he will behind 0-2 every count and struggle.
He just goes up and swings at everything and he is good enough that if the pitch is close it is usually a base hit.
That'll be on blooper reels for years to come

It was popped up about 30 feet up the third-base line with 2 out
The pitcher got it, but it bounced out of his glove and to the ground. CC was running the whole time, and crossed the plate a second after.
