Sabathia is going to the NL

http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/07/06/brewers-indians-agree-on-sabathia.aspx

Brewers, Indians agree on Sabathia By Tom Haudricourt Sunday, Jul 6 2008, 05:46 PM I just was told by a reliable club source that the Brewers have a deal in place with Cleveland for left-hander C.C. Sabathia, contingent on the paperwork being done and medical records exchanged. But believe me, folks, that's a deal. All that other stuff is formality. All I know so far is that top prospect Matt LaPorta is in the deal. I was told two lower-level minor leaguers also are included. The Brewers refused to include another top prospect such as Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel. Look for Sabathia to make his debut for the Brewers Tuesday night at Miller Park against Colorado. I'll post more details as I get them.

Let's celebrate that he's not coming to the AL East and that we're not giving up huge chunks of the future for someone we cannot realistically sign this off-season.

good

As good as he is, this trade shows that it might have taken David Price. Brewers better hope they make the playoffs or they will have nothing to show for losing their #1 spect. Thank god Red Sox or Yankees had no interest.

Any chance in hell Brewers sign him? I want him to stay in the NL, maybe the Dodgers or Mets or someone

I think the Brewers made a pretty good deal

They still get two #1’s if they don’t sign him. Which they won’t.

I think the move could work out for Milwaukee

Given that the division is still wide open, Sabathia could be the catalyst that allows them to jump in front. They won’t re-sign him, for sure, but if he spurs them on to the playoffs, the deal will be worth it. The draft compensation ensures some lasting benefit.

I don't see how Milwaukee can sign him

They were balking at Fielder for his money demands. They can’t sign both and CC is going to get 100+ million. Milwaukee can’t handle that kind of money. He’ll go to the LA area or New York this offseason.

Thank God the Rays didn’t go after Sabathia. Giving up Price would have been an awful move. Let’s now put our focus on getting Nady. What do you guys think it would take to get him, maybe Nieman and Ruggiano?

I forgot about the Fielder situation

and with Matt Laporta gone, I think they will give into Fielder’s demands. So once they throw a shit load at him, they wont even be able to think about negotiating with CC. Hope he stays in the NL anyway.

Furthermore, trading Laporta…... wow once again, they better make the playoffs

pretty off topic and unimportant to us but

Think he moves back to 1B? Hafner would be the DH and I am pretty sure Matt Laporta is a OK corner OF but a very good 1B. Yes, I am bored and desperate to talk baseball.

LaPorta

is not really an okay corner OFer. He can play the position at a passable level in the same way Hinske can. He’s terrible out there. Yeah, I think he almost certainly moves to 1st and continues to rake there.

if i was the indians i would leave him out there and keep garko at first

laporta might not be that great out there defensively but his bat is explosive and garko is a pretty good first baseman, btw this indian’s team might not be too bad next year with some offense because most of their key guys are hurt (carmona, hafner, martinez, westbrook) so next year they will be right back to be competitive

All is well

We don’t overpay, We don’t have to watch him play for Boston or New York, We don’t have to face him down the stretch (as an Indian), He gets to go to a contender, and LaPorta gets his chance to shine.

The brewers needed...

someone to make Prince Fielder seem tiny by comparison.

It is an old chick strategy

If you want to look slim, go out with your fat friends.

This mweans the Brewers will likely have 5 first round picks next year

With the departure of two type A FAs (Sheets and Sabathia). Is this correct or am I missing something? They have drafted pretty well, and this would totally restock the cabinet…
