The good people at MetsGeek are encouraging their readers to vote for Evan Longoria, but have requested for us to vote for David Wright in exchange. What do you say folks?

They probably

are saying the same thing to the Royal, Oriole and White Sox fans. They just want Wright to make it and Jason Giambi to sit at home.

Predicted stat-line for Varitek now

9 for 3 (yes, you read that right) with 22 HR, 96RBI, 33SB and 27CS for 4 attempts.

Because he’s been so God Damn awful this year, he’s going to try to make it up all at once.

by kericr on Jul 8, 2008 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

And no guys

MetsGeek changed our banner to a while to “RaysGeek” cuz we like how you’ve put your team together and are fun to watch. There’s no scam here. I’ve personally voted for Longoria over 300 times.

And Longoria is the man. Rowand was a Phillie, Dye was a Brave, Roberts is a nothing, and Jose Guillen is a nut-job.

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

damn

I shouldn’t have laughed so hard at “Roberts is a nothing”

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

Some more proof:

Hope we see you guys in the WS.

PS- You should do it just because we gave you Kazmir. Show some mercy.

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:26 PM EDT reply actions

hmm fair point

They gave us our ace for garabge, we can at least help David Wright get in.

keeps voting for Longo and Wright

I hope they both get in, dood

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

Longoria or Dye should be in over Varitek

and the other one should win the Final Vote. Too bad the players are as dumb as the fans sometimes and we have Jason Varitek instead.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:28 PM EDT reply actions

I retract

I’ll take their help. The pornstache does not belong in the ASG because cheaters should not win. I want a hGH-free contest

by Jason Collette on Jul 8, 2008 4:30 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah...

The Varitek thing was absurd, but at least you guys got Navarro in.

If you want to check out Jose Reyes vs. Miguel Tejada/Christian Guzman, and Johan Santana vs. Aaron Cook, and anyone in the world vs. Brian Wilson, you’d know us Mets fans are not happy with Billy Wagner as our lone rep

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

Giambi needs to finish no higher than 3rd

Maybe you can make the case for putting him over Guillen and Roberts but if it makes any sense Longo and Dye will both destroy him.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

yeah thats another one

Anyone care to tell me why Brian Wilson was put in instead of Johan Santana? Not like the Giants needed the representative. Lincecum is already there.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:32 PM EDT reply actions

nice article

So what do you say to Jason Bartlett for Jose Reyes?

hey, he plays great D!

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:35 PM EDT reply actions

luckily

jim duquette and chuck lamar are in two different places…far, far away

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

PS-

How long is Bartlett gonna start at short, or do you think his bad bat is going to land Zobrist there permanently?

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

the rest of the year

if we have learned one thing this year it’s how important defense is.

by Sveet on Jul 8, 2008 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I am still hoping Brignac gets a fair shot

his defense is superior to both guys and his bat is better than Bartlett’s. He is just going to strike out a lot.

by Dbullsfan on Jul 8, 2008 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I think his arm strength and accuracy

make up for the little he trails in range. I have only seen Bartlett in person a couple of times so what I see of him is on TV and from what I’ve seen from Brignac in Durham, I don’t think he is that far off.

by Dbullsfan on Jul 8, 2008 4:52 PM EDT up reply actions

should get another update tonight

Longo and Hart were winning last night. I can def see the New York fans changing both of those though.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:36 PM EDT reply actions

it better not

i HATE zobrist, he showed some very rare power his first 3 games but since then he sucks with the bat and is terrible with the glove. Bartlett needs to be our SS until Brignac can hit ML hitters.

voting ends thursday night btw

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:38 PM EDT reply actions

nope

I take Longo over Wright easy.

How about Longo and Bartlett for Wright and Reyes?

funny thing is, we win that deal so much and I would prob still be so upset.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions

BTW I'm down

I’ll vote for Wright

by Sveet on Jul 8, 2008 4:40 PM EDT reply actions

i really want Longo

but it would be a moral victory if another Yankee isn’t voted in. It’s not Yankees and Sox vs the Cubs, its the ASG

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

first comment

on this initiative from metsgeek commenter Danny:

“I support this initiative. Longoria deserves it.

Frankly, both teams deserve more representation than they have been given on these teams.”

http://www.metsgeek.com/articles/2008/07/08/help-evan-longoria-and-david-wright-get-voted-into-the-all-star-game/

I really hope both of them make it. Young 3B vs declining veterans…should be easy

by MetsGeek on Jul 8, 2008 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

Hanley

I remember Rays did try for him when he was a Red Sox prospect but that jerkweed LaMar wanted Sanchez also and was only giving up Huff.

Longo and Hanley on the left side would be so unfair and great

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:43 PM EDT reply actions

To be fair

Though Ramirez was a highly-regarded prospect at that time, his prospect status was nowhere near the level where anyone could fathom how well he is doing right now.

by Patrick L. Kennedy on Jul 9, 2008 12:40 AM EDT up reply actions

That's not entirely true

there were rumors that Hanley was bored in AA and if he was pushed, he would excel. And everyone knew he had the tools to do exactly what he is doing now. His numbers didn’t suggest that he was destined to do anything great, but many people though he was going to be a star

Tools Whore

Sign Bonds!

by Tyler on Jul 9, 2008 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Come on

No one thought at the time of that trade that Ramirez would turn out to be the player he is today, I think you are greatly underestimating his production now as compared to the expectation. He most definitely had the tools to become a productive player, even a star, but not nearly this quickly and to this extent.

by Patrick L. Kennedy on Jul 10, 2008 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing as Tyler, actually

When the trade happened I remembered discussing w/ a Sawx friend that Hanley’s splits seemed like he would do really poorly in Miami because he only played well when people were at the park. He thought he was bored and didn’t care. Not to say that we envisioned him being the best hitting SS in baseball, but we did think he was a very nice player.

by rglass44 on Jul 10, 2008 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

as much as I love Brignac

I hate him being in the majors, he is just a bench warmer for us. He should play out the season in AAA and try to make the team out of the spring for 2009.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 4:45 PM EDT reply actions

plus

If we demote Brignac and just keep Zobrist(barf), we can get that 12th pitcher.

i've been voting d wright anyway

burrell comes off as a douche sometimes… d wright seems to be cool

by daveh33 on Jul 8, 2008 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

I never thought I would miss Bartlett so much

but it looks like Zobrist is our starter and I hate that.

by joeybw on Jul 8, 2008 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

Gotta go Burrell

Burrell is having a much better offensive year than Wright, and the advanced metrics show him to be league-average in the field this year. The other thing swaying my opinion is that Burrell deserves to be an All-Star STARTER, while Wright’s beef is merely that he was clearly the second-best third baseman ahead of Aramis Ramirez.

I’ve given up whining about All-Star selections, but votes likes these are tough because in both leagues there are multiple players who deserve to be on the team, but we have to choose the one MOST deserving.
