1.62 WHIP but only a 4.19 ERA
All of those ground balls. Jeter has the best range in all of baseball according to the Yankee fans so we’re totally doomed.
I have to admit
I couldn’t believe he got to the ball last night where he got Navi out at second. That was a nice play, but honestly Navi got the worst jump humanly possible. He didn’t even start running until it was about in Jeters glove.
Navi had a terrible jump
I couldn’t believe he was out by that much given how slow that ball was hit and Jeets had to impersonate a ballerina to get that ball off.
Bartlett would have made it look routine :)

Hitting better come alive tonight.
I noticed in the previews that Hinske, Iwamura, Navi, Pena, and BJ are all 500 or better against Ponson this season. As long as its not another game like Monday where they get LOB…
Longoria
I think he rests his eyeballs during the day to prevent unnecessary sun damage.

What about Salas
I was a huge Salas fan last year. i know he walks a ton of guys but he can throw multiple innings and his command has been slightly better this year in Triple A. Seems like its about time for him to get a shot at upgrading what seems to be a declining bullpen.
That's definitely an option worth looking at
Reyes will probably displace a position player when he comes back, but Salas has got to be the first choice in Triple A to replace any struggling relief pitcher thereafter. The problem is that the team also needs to activate Percival as well, and once those two get back, I think the team will be mostly satisfied with the status of their bullpen. Through it all, one of Glover or Hammel will remain, so there are still weak spots. That being said, I don’t know that the team will be pro-active in replacing either of those two given that Hammel has value but not options, and Glover has not been THAT awful lately.
by Patrick L. Kennedy on Jul 9, 2008 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions
I guess it would take a trade
Even then however, a trade would likely be targeting a relief pitcher and not eliminating one. Salas might have to wait for the rosters to expand to get his chance to show something.

MLB.tv
Does anyone watch mlb.tv on a mac? if so, how much do i have to go through in order to be able to?
alright i think i just did that
I guess we’ll see in about an hour
not positive what flip 4 mac is though
I’m less than intelligent
when microsoft discontinued their own crappy windows media player port
They made Flip 4 Mac (a Quicktime service) sorta official.
I was calling to call Edwin the Wild German in German, Wildes Deutsch
But I don’t think that works out to well.

New ballpark give-away
An Edwin Jackson magic 8-ball. Shake it and see what type of performance he will give that day.
by FanDisplaced on Jul 9, 2008 12:24 PM EDT reply actions 1 recs
2.57 ERA in his last 3 starts
and 4.08 on the year. Edwin has been very good for a bottom of the rotation pitcher this year
Other possible give-aways
Carlos Pena personal fan, Gary Glover mop, Troy Percival game of Operation, Edwin Jackson signed copy of Mein Kampf, JP Howell radar ball (just slam it against your hand and you throw 102mph!), a mini-refrigerator from Dioner Navarro which he had to take off of his own back, and a BJ Upton hammock.

If the B.J. hammock doesn't come with B.J. I don't want it.

those assholes A-Rod and Jeter will turn into gold glovers against us.
we all know hes streaky
he just needs to get out of this bad streak
B.J.'s pitch was a strike, Carl's was a ball.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Both were on 1-0 counts.
Carl’s was at his shin, B.J.’s was above his knees.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
The problem with Carl is he has bad processes.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions
That's a bold statement...
what if the scouting report is that Ponson will try and pump a FB past the batter in a 1-0 count, and Ponson went to the sinker instead?
Boom. Outta Here.
He has no patience at the plate and swings at awful pitches when ahead in the count...
In baseball, that is part of the process…it is why he doesnt hit for power and has a crap OBP
Didn't say that.
But keep thinking Carl is a good hitter.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Carl reads scouting reports?
He must get the same report for every pitcher.

I'm not saying he doesn't.
I’m saying he doesn’t change his approach.

Gardner tried to bunt on 2-1, it sailed right into Pena's glove
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.
Beane wasn't on top of his game
but of course since it’s Oakland, Gallagher will turn into an ace and Harden will get a season ending injury.
Rob Neyer thinks this is going to Mulder for Haren, part 2...
i think that’s very possible, but was Gaudin really necessary?
9 = 8
My point:
- Why can’t Sean Gallagher step into the A’s rotation without them missing a beat? He’s more of a groundball pitcher than Harden which plays into the Oakland defense’s hands, ranked first in defensive efficiency. Gallagher is only 22 and his K/BB ratio is 2.23, Harden’s career K/BB ratio is 2.25.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Everyone pitches great in Oakland
Gallagher is gonna be great and eventually traded for another 4 prospects
come on EJ
don’t fucking walk a guy who is 1 for 16 against you and now A-Rod is up. I don’t see good things in our future.
jeter looks like hes hurting
i hope his dick falls off
There's a Jeter-A-Rod-Madonna joke in there somewhere
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; but if a thing is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.
his overall numbers are getting really good
always showed the power but he is hitting in the .280’s now.
Sorry I am at work

man, that 2-0 pitch to floyd is way out of the zone according to gameday...what the heck is big red swingin at?...
9 = 8
well at least we didnt hit into a DP
figured we would get a DP then K, shows my confidence for these guys lately
id be mad about that out
but compared to last night…this is progress
MARGRANE HAS SPOKEN
get some fucking plate patience
right in the knee.....
money says that was intentional
Thanks for playing America's #1 new game show
“How will the Rays not score?” I’m Chuck Woollery, we’ll be back next inning, stay tuned for a brand new episode of “Edwin Jackson allows multiple runners to get into scoring position.”
Checking in from LL to say GO RAYS!
and that Sidney Ponson doesn’t look like an utter douche in his file photo, go figure

But we weren't talking about swinging strikes...
he did make contact with the ball.
Boom. Outta Here.
Yeah, you're right.
Carl Crawford is the epitome of the smart ballplayer. I’m sure he knows exactly what the scouting report says.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
So smart he doesn't need to think
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.
What point are you missing here...
Crawford doesn’t work counts, Crawford swings at ton of balls outside of the strike zone, Crawford makes contact but usually results in an out, and by not having patience he doesn’t get into hitters’ counts.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions
lets give them 1 thing
no one is better at getting 2 out hits and leaving them on base. We are #1 there.

You don't even go to the games
You’re the worst kind of fan. You are hyper-critical and presumptious. You pass off your opinion as fact and absolute. I never claimed that I knew the scouting report.
Boom. Outta Here.
I would say so.
It takes quit a fan to deepthroat Crawford at every stop.

I've been to more than 30 games this year..
and you and Patrick have turned down premium tickets offered to you by people on here.
Boom. Outta Here.
He spends more time on the blog...
Talking Rays baseball, then you spend in going to games and thinking of baseball. GOing to games is an absurd way to judge a fan.
I didn't offer you the tickets...
and I can’t see how accepting tickets would be be improper of you.
Boom. Outta Here.
I'm not taking someone's tickets because I don't want to owe anyone anything.
That was pretty obvious in my first statement. I’ll be attending a few games over the last 30, will it be more than you? No, but frankly I don’t care.
by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

by R.J. Anderson on Jul 9, 2008 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions
You are an awful fan
Because you spend ALL of your time talking Rays baseball and posting interesting info for others….but you dont go to games and you are critical of CC
Doesn't seem like ...
you really care if it’s shit. And that doesn’t explain how accepting tickets would be improper.
Boom. Outta Here.
I beg your pardon?
I can’t speak for R.J., but I’ve never been offered premium tickets by any user on this site.
If you want to assert that you’re a better fan based on your own made-up criteria, fine. But I would argue that the amount of time R.J. spends on keeping up this site and running a community devoted to the team more than fulfills his obligation as a fan. In doing so, he stokes interest in the team, which in turn might encourage some of his readers to take more of an interest in the team than they otherwise would. These users might then devote dollars to the team.
And for the record, I’ve been to 18 games next year. I would love to attend more, but it is simply not within my means at the the moment to do so.
by Patrick L. Kennedy on Jul 9, 2008 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Why are you a better fan?
Because you attend more games? That is an asinine argument
Willis, you need to take the blinders off
Having played the game, and pitched at a high level, I can tell you that CC is a hitter of little patience. He is a hacker. He has no approach at the plate. It is obvious to anyone that understands the game, FOr God’s sake, he cant even bunt and he is one of the fastest players in baseball. He could care less what the scouting reports say, because he NEVER has patience.
WTF Ponson is dogshit
watch the balls and wait for a pitch you can drive. Why is everyone pressing so hard right now.

Lance Barksdale is a shitty umpire
He cost the Phillies a game last year with a blown call on the bases.
devil's advocate
I really don’t think Pena is as good of a first baseman as everyone says he is. He is very good at picking balls at first base but I think people’s positive view of him comes more from the fact that he loves to backhand routine groundballs while contorting his body. That last ball was a step to his left and he tried to backhand it while laying on the ground. I think it looks better than it actually is.
Ponson hits a lot of people and is a known asshole
thats 2 so far he should be tossed or at the very gd least warned

How the hell are we losing?
Jackson has given up 1 run and we are facing Ponson, I mean I really just don’t understand.
Remember when?
Remember when Hinske hit that meaningless homerun in the 10th against Soria? It didn’t feel that great then but I guess I was just taking the ability to score runs for granted.
GREAT JOB CARL
if cano didnt blow that would be a DP
im ready for this game to be over
I know it’s still early but I can not see these bums scoring at all. They can’t do ANYTHING
how can bartlett and longoria be so good at stealing bases
yet the faster CC and Upton get thrown out more often
yes, let's make decisions based on the past few days
CC should improve. The starting shortstop in hurt (and should hit better). I agree about right field, though. The bullpen needs a stud, depth is not an issue. Overall the rotation is a strength, but when you can upgrade one piece that’s weak, you do it.
NYY 1 run lead feels like 5....
With Ponson on the hill, I shouldn’t feel this way!!!

i guess it evens out
Ump just called a strike a ball then called a ball a strike. Well, he has the count right at last.
oh btw
our #4/#5 ERA is 3.94. Price may simply not get a chance cuz he wont need a starter. Keep it going Jackson and Sonny
The Howell/Gathright trade is beginning to look like pure theivery at this point
And Gathright is even actually doing pretty OK for KC.
Why do we need Fuentes?
We have the greatest bullpen already. Once the postseason starts we can pretty much stick with Howell/Balfour/Wheeler/Percival every game considering all the off days.
Fuentes is probably to replace one of our 2 MU guys
but I say trade all the peices(not Price) and bring in Jason Bay
So many great puns would also be available if she were to get hit around
Most fun watching someone do poorly that we could possibly have.
Hammel or Glover will only see postseason time if we are up 10-0 or down 10-0
With off days you only need 3 starters and 3 to 4 relievers.
how sure are you that that will continue?
And anyone know if the scouting report backs up his sick success so far this year?
Haha that will never be played out I still laugh at that guys dumbass everytime i hear this
