Reporting that Rays are close to trading for Sheffield...Apparently he has been "won" by the Rays on a waiver claim. I would hope if, and only if they make a deal, that they at least split the remaining salary. I don't know about this. I think he would be a Type A free agent? If anyone hears more about please let us know.
Please take this with a grain of salt. We have seen this messed up before.

I doubt they made a waiver claim...
Wouldn’t they be on the hook for the rest of this years contact and $14 million next if they claimed him? I’d imagine the Tigers would drop him in a second for that.

This is a good point.
Only way it makes sense is if Sheffield cleared waivers, which is probably what happened. Nobody is going to claim him and risk getting stuck with the remainder of that contract.

I am saying BS
Don’t even do it if you can’t at least split the remaining salary

A Sheffield move would bring one word to my mind
Why.

if would be a horrible move,
there is no way the Rays FO just put out a waiver claim to take on that remaining salary for a guy who is obviosly washed up.

Yeah, there's now way.
The Tigers would just dump him on us the way we dumped Canseco on the Yankees. I’m 100% positive Sheff cleared waivers.

Ditto to Bonds
Sheff’s an ass hole. Bonds is a living legend that deserve’s a shot if Crawfords not coming back.
A move has to be made.

You should rephrase that to Bonds is a living legend who is also an asshole
You know how long it would take Barry to get game ready? And for a guy who has never seen AL pitching it would be a disaster for the 1 month. CC will be back

Sheffs our compliment to Gross in RF?
so a platoon of Gross/Sheff/Baldelli at DH and RF wih Gross and Sheff splitting? and baldelling splitting time between DH and RF to rest.
If that’s the case i see Floyd being gone. He’s already said he’s gonna retire more then likely at the end of the year.
Also, he fits in with our speed we play. He still steals bases. not a lot, but he can if he needs to.
Whats his stats against Bos and NYY? If he crushes their pitching, it could be another option on why we’ve got him.
Although, that crap he does with the bat before he swings annoys the crap out of me (especially in MLB ‘08).

Awesome Possum
If Sheffield is on the Rays I will buy his Jersey to add to the collection. Already got Braves, Yankees, and Marlins Jerseys.
