Aubrey Huff?
What are the possibilities of obtaining Huff through a waiver deal if Baltimore cuts him loose? I think he would fit in here being that he's been here before and at the start of this season he wanted out of Baltimore. I'm just throwing some things around because I'm really concerned about this Ruggiano thing. I know his numbers are impressive in AAA, but how much can you really read into that at this point?

I thought the Rays were trying to get rid of all the club house cancers!
,sure how he is in the club house but he has always been an ass to me.

This guy? An ass?

I saw the video from that segment
Not appropriate to post here, but they did link to it on deadspin. After seeing it you really get a feel for the environment that Huff said some of his dumb statements in. People took it way to seriously.

Did he say he wanted out of Baltimore?
I was just under the impression he just said the city was a boring place to live while talking to a bay area shock jock

Yeah
they hate him in Baltimore, and he doesn’t seem to be a big fan of the city either.
That said, I doubt the Orioles trade anyone to the Rays who could hurt them next year. Other than that, making a claim on Huff would make some sense, and he’s actually hitting well this year.

They like him here now
After he almost single-handedly beat us in the first series, they have changed their colors about him. I was the only person booing him the last two O’s games I went to.

Please... no one hates Huff in Baltimore
Huff said some during the offseason and people hated him. Then, to start the season, Huff apologized and said he was going to try to work his way back into the good graces of Baltimore fans with his bat.
Well, he’s done that – Huff is now a fan favorite because he is KILLING. THE. BALL. everywhere he goes. I love Huff, and so does everyone else I know. In fact, his nickname is “Huff Daddy,” coined by O’s radio PBP announcer Joe Angel.

I also love Huff
And if you listen to him, Huff loves Baltimore (the team, not the city necessarily). But if the O’s can get something good for him, I wouldn’t mind him being traded (although I’m sure when he hits another home run I’ll be changing my mind).

Huff was great in the clubhouse until like 2005
when he started having hissy fits.
by Sylar on Aug 12, 2008 9:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Huff
I’m just curious what those “hissy fits” were in relation to? Was it the team performing poorly? Is it just his attitude on life? Has he been on a contending team? I’m not sure those are the issues relevant toward his club house mishaps.. but I know this.. the guy can surge and be a major power provider…If he’s cleared waivers as some reports say, does that help us in obtaining him or make it worse?

He started sucking and not caring after years of playing for a loser.
The losing seemed to permeate his soul to the point of not caring. Throw in the fact that he never had a position (and was bad at anywhere they put him), and you have a guy that was a “clubhouse cancer.” I think he also bad-mouthed the club when he left.

I know this is a sore subject to some folks but......
Baltimore is in great need of a SS of the future and while it may be a menace initially to trade Brignac to the Orioles, it may also help in acquiring Huff. Again, this might be a crazy statement, but I’m sure the O’s would ask for Brignac.

Brignac would never make it through waivers
He’s on the 40 man roster so he has to pass through waivers. He’d never make it past Oakland, Cleveland, or KC who have higher waiver priority than the Orioles.

i would love to have aubrey huff but...
i just dont see boston or new york allowing him to pass through waivers to get to us, he is a FA after this season so maybe he will be a possibility since he wont be too expensive and will fly under the radar with all the big names in the FA market next year
Longo=ROY. Friedman=Executive of the year. Maddon=Manager of the year. Rays=WS champs 08! fiddler cat=best way to show your excitement. BJ UPTON IS NOT LAZY! ! ! Gabe Gross=caption clutch.

didn't huff slam the rays org and the players when he left?

Huff really only plays well against the Rays.
Not for the Rays. He’d be a great pickup for Boston with Lowell going down.

Check out Huff's stats this year
He is doing more than just playing well only vs the Rays. In the AL, he ranks thusly:
Hits: 10th (137)
Doubles: 5th (35)
Home Runs: 6th (25)
RBI: 8th (80)
SLG: 7th (.550)
OPS: 10th (.909)
Total Bases: 3rd (251)
Extra Base Hits: 1st (62)
Is this not someone you’d love to have on your team?

how about 2006 or 2007?
2006 — .267/.344/.469
2007 — .280/.337/.442
That data matters, too, when trying to project how Huff will hit the rest of 2008 and into 2009. I posted his Marcel projection in a different thread, but it’s about .280/.350/.470. That’s a bit above average for a corner outfielder, but not a ton. And he’s a poor fielder. And the Rays just don’t have $8MM to throw around.

Marcel projection is actually .274/.339/.461, worse than I listed above

That was before the season
What do you think it’ll be next year? MARCEL looks at the last three seasons of data, so to replace his 2005 line with 2008 line (weighted heavier) his projection next year would likely be at least a little higher. Take Pena for example. I guess accounting for age it wouldn’t be quite as optimistic. Pena’s for this year was .270/.391/.547/.938.
